electrical problem

Recommended Posts

I wish that people would browse thru this forum before installing their aftermarket stereos.  Ok, the whipping will stop...

The parking light/taillight circuit supplies night time illumination for dash gauges, ash tray, glove box, and stereo.

This circuit then runs thru the dimmer control switch (reostat) for adjusting brightness of gauges, climate control, and stereo.

Some aftermarket radios ask for too much power to end up burning up the dimmer control switch.

I always recommend using a voltmeter before hooking up aftermarket stereo's lights to dimmer control switch circuit.  I prefer tapping into taillight circuit at ash tray to be safe.

However, in your case, it appears that your aftermarket stereo is asking for too much power -- there must be a short somewhere -- that it...

1)  burnt up dimmer control switch and

2)  burnt up fuse for taillight circuit
