mass air

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has a 2nd gen mass air off of a mitsubishi, will that work on my 89 conquest? I am upgrading to an 18g turbo, and a walboro 255lph fuel pump. I want to do away with the big air box on the stock mass air. Will this 2nd gen maf work? Also what other upgrades would I need to put the 18g turbo on? I wouldn't think anything else is neccesary. I would like to get head studs, and a new head, but for now would this work? Any input would be helpful..

If you are talking about the 609 mas from the 2gen dsm turbo's, yes it can be used provided you also install a safc2 or neo afc. Typically the 2g mas would be used with up sized injectors about 20-30% bigger. But should work well with the stock mits injectors as the cars tend to run pig rich stock. So you would need to add about 15-25% positive air flow correction with the afc using stock injectors.

Probably not newbie stuff, but if you have a friend that understands the concept of airflow correction tuning as used on dsm's these cars will respond to the same tuning concept.

A maft works as well, but tuning capability is quite limited. But usually adequate if the power goals are with in the limits of the stock injectors.

A 18g can easily exceed the capitally of the stock injectors. So effective boost control is a must. Boost spikes are particularly hard to tune.

I recommend using a baffle when using a mitsu mas.

My current setup intake set up using a 90* pipe and a 45* coupler, but i did go back to the starquest turbine housing.
