The Shelby

I know a few of you SQ guys are into mini-Mopars, so I figured I'd post up my new project / semi-daily driver.

Currently the car is in non-running shape, its been in a shed since 2003 and has 80,000 miles on the clock. The gentleman I bought the car from tells me he was the owner of the car since '91, according to him it was originally a Hertz rental from Hollywood and was stolen - the number plate was taken as was the OEM Pioneer DEX-77 stereo. A rear window has been replaced, and the ignition is all cut by the VIN from Chrysler. From what this guy tells me, he called Shelby back in early 2000 and after verifying the VIN a new number plate was issued. He has it with the documentation and original owners manual.

This will make my first Mini Mopar (turbo Dodge in general), and my first numbered Shelby as a result. I'm much more familiar with the Japanese compacts and sports cars, but was raised a Mopar guy by my father who had a '70 Superbird while I grew up. While looking for Dakotas or a classic Dodge truck to restore, I came across this Shelby and just had to have it. Got a few snaps for you guys - courtesy of my two roommates. Best blind impulse buy ever!

My brother once had a 88' Shadow Shelby. He ragged the hell out of it, and then pulled out in front of a truck in front of Pizza Hut while delivering pizzas. Needless to say, he was an irresponsible driver.

Here's an example.

Shelby's were sweet, I also had a non-turbo Shelby Charger, but had to get rid of it to get my first Quest ;)

I'd like a comfy 330-350 whp out of the car, which is very doable on a stock T2 2.2, but I'd like to go one further and do a lot of work with the head and cam. The flatter the powerband, the better. ;)

Already found a few different wheel sets, I may get some uber-light 16"s for R-compounds to autocross or hit the track with, and a set of snazzy hellaflush 17"s for daily/show duty. We'll see how she pans out. First things first though, gotta get the stock Shelby engine and trans pulled to make way for a Dodge T2 2.2 and lots of boost, I've got to daily this thing as soon as possible.
