Yeah throttle plate was open, I did everything correctly where can I get rings? Or are there any you recommend? -
I bought my starion ('83 flatty) recently with 206k on it. new head, new turbo... ...stock bottom end. I checked compression, it was 120, 125, 125, 130... ive been reading that compression shoudl be in the 142-149 area for the widebody, but it claimed that the flatty's minimum compression was 119, with no more than 10% variation between cylinders. anyway.... with thinkin compression is fine, i bought a manual boost controller and turned up boost from about 6, to about 8 or so and ran it around the neighborhood to she what it could do. Recently i have noticed a slight leak of oil dripping from the turbo. (directly under the oil line.. NOT the oil line, but directly under it) The car also smokes a little now at start-up and under a slight load. Car also now cuts out as soon as vacuum reaches 0 on the boost gauge. First off, im looking for a downpipe-back exhaust. I'm running no muffler, and hollow cats. You can only imagine the sound I'm also looking for the rear spoiler from a wide body to place on to my '83 Flatty - (compatible-?) My 5spd is also making a whining/growl noise in 1-2-3 and 5th gear, so I'm wondering where i can locate secondary shaft bearings? I also need a new throwout bearing, and a pilot bushing/bearing. UPDATE: Fixed boost problem... too much back pressure... hollowed cats out, boosts like crazy

My boost cuts out at around 3400 and car sputters like a fuel cut... I'm thinkin the vacuum advance in the distributor..?

I bought my first Starion a few days ago and im totally excited! Now, I bought the car from a man named Evan here in Fairfield CA., he had it for sale on this site too, 83 black starion. Owner since '84 At the time of purchase i realized the valve lash needed adjustment right away, but i decided to take it for a test drive anyway... NO BOOST! Turbo does not spin at idle (Stock turbo, receipt proves rebuild - $775) But it does spin momentarily when cranked and first starts up. No Shaft play, compressor spinds freely when off. When at idle, boost guage reads around 12 i believe, and after adjusting valves properly (thank god it didnt sound like a diesel anymore!) i took it for a spin again and boost guage will NEVER exceed 0 PSI. The previous owner claims that it may need Rings, but compression is good... Also, waste gate actuator arm was not hooked up, but i used a paper clip as a carter pin to hook up the waste gate arm, this still didnt fix the issue... Im just curious if anyone can point me in a direction? I possibly thinkin the waste gate vacuum diaphragm may have a hole in it, but.... is the diagphragm metallic or metal? Thank you. -Hubble By the way, call me or text me anytime 916-350-1818 UPDATE: yesterday a friend and I disassembled the back side of the turbo (the plate that covers the waste gate) and now the car boosts to about 7 psi.. but will cut out at about 3400rpm... any ideas?
