Hi All, A brief introduction. We have five cars. Why would we want another? Well... My '72 Capri project isn't driveable yet (but close!), our '84 Toyota Celica is a dedicated autocross car and not really very streetable anymore, my son drives our '91 MR2 to school, my wife has her SLK, and that leaves me with the tow vehicle - our rock, the '98 Toyota 4Runner. I love the 4Runner, but, uh. Yeah, would be nice to have something more fun. The MR2 is mine. Or at least it was. I love that car. Fun to drive, and I won a couple of local E Stock autocross championships in it. It's beat up and doesn't look so great, but I love it. My son will graduate High School this year. He is a super-responsible kid, and will be heading off to engineering school next year. I want my MR2 back, and we want to give him something as a nice graduation gift. That brings me to the '88 Conquest. Right now it's just an ad on craigslist. Way too much money, but 80k miles and in the pictures, anyway, it looks really, really clean. I've always thought it better to pay too much for a good car than try to find a smokin' deal only to discover you'll spend more and ultimately end up with a car that isn't as nice. So I'm tempted by the over priced Conquest. I always wanted one, and you know I'll get to play with it. So, I'm going to call the guy and try to have a look. I'm in Denver and it's in Colorado Springs. I'm going down there this weekend for an autocross event. Hoping that works for the seller's schedule. I read a lot on here about things to look for. It sounds like, for the most part, it's pretty typical used car stuff. Is there any "gotcha" on these things that I should pay special attention to? I'm really, really used to driving old cars, and mine are dead nuts reliable. We maintain them well and would do the same with this. My son will very likely go to school out of state next year, so we need to send him off in something we trust. I can't find anything that makes me worry about a Starquest. Is there anything there I'm missing? It's worth noting, I daily drove a '72 Capri, (another one) year round in Denver for a couple of years. So I guess I'm a little more "hard core" than some. The '91 MR2 was supposed to be my move to a "normal" car. lol. For me it is. I can actually take it to a mechanic and get it worked on. I know parts are supposed to be a bit difficult to come by for the Starquest, but I guarantee it's easier than a Capri. So I'm not overly concerned about it. I assume, in a pinch, a normal mechanic can work on and order parts for one of these things? Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing and driving this thing. If it's as nice as it looks and the seller is willing to talk a little on the price, who knows. We may be driving it home. We'll see.
