smallblock12
would it be worth it to trade my 88 starion thats wrecked for a fully built srt4 motor. its the best i can think of since im tight on money and no one wants my car. i figure i get it and save up to do the swap.just need some help with the whole tranny deal
smallblock12
i am getting the motor. someone needs to help me figure out what tranny to use
Michaels_RT
aside from the whole discussion of...WHY?...for transmission adaption there are some companies that can make adapter plates to mate up transmissions to motors that have no business being there. In SoCal there is a company (or was a company, its been a while) called MechTech that made adapter plates for motor tranny connections. I would say pick a tranny and give some company like that a call. Pick one that can take some abuse and have fun!

Scotty Dont
what you should do is sell that srt4 motor and buy a 4g63/4 hybrid and you wont have to worry about a trany
Michaels_RT
+1 for that idea. Sell the motor and use something that is proven to work and put up great numbers.
smallblock12
what tranny goes with that motor? what about ecu and all that
JustPaus_88TSi
http://projectzerog.com/ I'm wondering how you plan to do these swaps when you're concerned about only having money for a motor rebuild without having enough to go MPI? Any swap you do will cost more.
smallblock12
yeah i was thinkin i would be better off swaping but i figure ill just stick to building my motor tbi then gather mpi stuff till i get it all. is there any thing special i should do to my motor. i would like to get the most out of it tbi. i would like to possibly rev to 6500 or 7if i can still make power with tbi setup
Szester
there was some talk about this a while back i guess a jeep liberty trans will work but how much abuse will it take? well, its a jeep...i would assume it would take a lot of abuse
Szester
what you should do is sell that srt4 motor and buy a 4g63/4 hybrid and you wont have to worry about a trany noooo, F that. I want to see an srt4 in a quest. They are awesome motors, they just come in REALLY crappy cars. Imagine seeing one in quest!
fasttom5116
like i have said older supra tranny is the same as the 2.2 dodge dakota but better (stronger) so you use the older supra tranny with the 2.2 dodge dakota bell housing and then you can bolt the tranny to the 2.4 or a 2.0 or a 2.2 or a 2.5!!!! ))
smallblock12
really! the dakota has the same bolt pattern on the bell housing? i was told that the only one that bolted to the srt4 was the liberty trannny
strang3majik
2.2L dakota??? They didn't put the 2.2 in that, did they? (meaning the same as the 2.2 turbo?) Now the 2.5 I believe they did.
fasttom5116
it was a na 2.
smallblock12
so would the bell housing have to be cut off the tranny and put on the supra tranny?

Left is the A535, Right is the AX15. The AX15 bell is the correct one for this swap. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/qq319/fasttom5116/22_bells.jpg now this is the supra tranny http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/4119/1000369qy0.jpg 87-92 Supra Turbo 5-speed and yoke 94-95 Dakota 2.5L bellhousing, throwout bearing, slave cylinder and fork 94-99 AX-15 Front bearing cover You'll need a 21 spline clutch disk. Might be able to match up one from a Toyota V6 truck Edited February 26, 2009 by fasttom5116
