  3. Hi, been a long time lurker, usually just doing searches and FSM reading, but I am running into some issues. 1. The turbo coolant feed/drain lines, is there a way to fit a wrench in there or do I need to go find a 22 mm socket? Cant get my wrench to fit on enough to not feel like I will strip the head. Trying to fit my braided lines on, while I have the radiator out getting cleaned, replacing all the sensors, ect. 2. The Oil Pump/Power steering belt, how do you loosen and tighten it. I found the two bolts at the 3 and 9 o'clock, loosened them, but the oil pump doesn't seem to move enough to easily get the belt off. Just changing the belts, because one had some wear showing, but that one looks good, and I can figure out how to tighten it back up. The FSM just says to 'adjust drive belt tension' but doesn't go into details about how to do that. 3. How the crap do you remove the skid plate? I see the 4 12 mm bolts, but when I try and take them off, they just spin. Not super loose, but they just never come out at all. Very frustrating, as having to work around it, just makes everything more difficult. This car is the baby, but always makes me so frustrated and look silly when trying to do anything. argg. Thanks for any help! -hn

  9. Hey guys, my name is Carlos, and I just recently acquired a long dreaded 87 Conquest TSI. It's my first car, at 16. Little background on her: my parents and I moved to the Vallejo/Benicia area 5 years ago. My dad and I were preaching one day(my parents and I are Jehovah's Witnesses) a d we saw her parked. My dad was instantly shocked, as he had owned one years ago, and started to tell my many stories of him and his Starion. We asked the lady if she was selling it, and she told us to just make her an offer. We didn't have any money so we didn't offer anything. Long story short, for 5 years we would pass by the house just to see if she was still there, and just hoping one day we'd make the money. I graduated, started working, saved up, and voíla! I made her an offer and got a killer deal at only $550. 87k miles. Her father was the first owner, and he inherited it to her. Up to today I've spent about a little over 1G, but she runs The biggest expense were the back fees. From 2002 she hadn't been resgistered. 738 dollas right there alone. My only aftermarket part for now has been a K&N air filter. Things I've had to replace are: fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, oil filter, belts, and this week the alternator, and cap & rotor. I have big plans for her(her name's Diamond) and I really appreciate such a great forum for all my questions and doubts. Look forward to many more grease keys on my keyboard as I search for the solution to whatever problem I ha?e. More pics will definitely come soon. Thanks guys.
  10. I searched, but could not find an answer. Will a 88 distributor work in a 87? My car is a 87 5sp widebody. The only engine mod is hard pipes with a bov.
  11. Hi all, I am picking up my '87 Conquest tomorrow morning. It currently doesn't run. I needs a new head gasket, at least. I already read the newbie checklist, but will be asking advice in the VM section I am sure. My name is Stangman because Mustangs are my first love, but I love the platform of the Starquest. ie L-4, Turbo, 5-speed, RWD. My Dad tells me I have till the end of April to have it driving down the road, and I only have a 1000 dollars to put into it. So I am going to need all the help I can get. Hopefully I can find some of that here. Thank you.
  12. Hi all, I decided that I would rather take some extra time and build my Conquest into the car I want. Since this includes a small block V8, I no longer need the engine to my 87. If you want any of it, let me know. Not sure what it is worth. Thanks
  13. Im looking for the following: Front crossmember (the one that supports the engine) Sterring center link
  14. Hello everyone, I have a 1987 Chrysler Conquest TSI that I purchased as a freshman in college (2000). Bought it in California and drove it to North Dakota (that is were I went to college -- long story). After I graduated I was recruited by a web development firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I was laid off in 2009 and moved back to Alabama where I was born. The car sat for 8 years but during that time it has traveled (by trailer) from North Dakota, Minnesota and now Alabama. I wasn't able to afford my truck so now I am getting my TSI ready for the road again. Pictures are on my profile with updates weekly. I am actually glad I was put in my situation cause I really missed working on it. I have so many ideas for it and this site is great. Please feel free to ask any questions or post any comments.
