Just how quick can the north can destroy a car. ( an autopsy)
psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Just plain ol' B.S.
That's exactly how I feel about this kind of work! I'm also a cheapskate, stubborn and a glutton for punishment. If someone else can do it, then there's no reason I can't, has always been my outlook. Usually it works out... eventually. -

It's always worse than it seems. I know all too well how cars die in the north. 40 years in north PA. Being in TN now I just can't get used to what people call a "rust bucket" here. Both of my SQ would have been scrap metal in the south. My Starion has never seen snow and still has a large portion of pinch weld that evaporated. -
Back in the game after 2 decades..

Welcome back! That's one hell of a lucky find! -
I don't think trying to run the late model injectors with lower pressure is going to work out. They won't atomize correctly and the fuel rate will likely be unpredictable. Might be time for a fuel management system. You could always contact Trilogy and see if Heron can help out.

This needs a sticky! If it wasn't for you and your lovely wife my car never would have made it. Your advice and parts over the years have been priceless. Always a pleasure Randy!

Welcome back! There have been a few nice flatties pop up recently, so you may be in luck! -
Picture link doesn't work

Hello Fox, Welcome! I bet Steve can hook you up with the cluster plastic. If for some reason he can't, someone here can, I'm sure. The FAQ here has the TPS reset procedure as well as other items you should read through.

BUR7EA (7031) I have run this plug in mild to wild and it just works. I believe I'm gapped at .035" now. I know I started at whatever gap they come at. That was ok until 18ish psi and then it would try to slam my face off the steering wheel. Reduced gap and all good.

Vacuum modulator source recommendations
psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Advanced Virtual Mechanic
Unfortunately that might be correct. Even the manual boxes have a bearing that is not available anymore. I have never massed with an auto, so I'm no help there. Did you check the parts manual over at starquestgarage? Might show if that vac line is separate. -
Mookeeh (MK1), Cosmo, ST were all options at one time. I really don't know if any of those are still around. I will try to remember to look in the garage tonight. I might have a set of lowering springs still. Not sure if I tossed them in the move a few years back or not. There is definitely info here about the Eibach spring rates. I forgot to mention, please don't cut a coil. Does it work? Sure. Is it really safe? No

Using a Ford 140 amp, one wire alternator
psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Just plain ol' B.S.
I unhooked the stock ECU and then proceeded to pull the entire harness. If you want it out in one piece it is a pain, but doable. I knew I was never going back so I took it out in chunks with a set of diagonal cutters. Edit: 4AWG copper wire if you run it less than 5 feet. If you are relocating the battery to the rear I'd recommend 2AWG. I personally used 0 gauge welding cable when I put the battery in the hatch. Then put a 100A breaker right off the battery. Obviously you would need a larger breaker, but you get the idea -
Using a Ford 140 amp, one wire alternator
psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Just plain ol' B.S.
I dig it! I've been saying for 20 years I'm going to upgrade my OEM alternator. 86 alt is only something like 60 amps. Maybe 75.. I don't remember. Somehow it still works. If you aren't cooking fusible links it's likely good to go. I would upgrade the main charge wire though. Factory wiring might let out the smoke at even 100 amps -
I'll have to see if I can find the info on my old eibach set. In the end I wasn't happy with them. Although that was mostly autocross use. The car sat lovely, but I could throw the air dam into the pavement on a hard corner. I also can ST springs and cosmo coilovers at different times. Those ground controls have a great rep with my BMW friends. Maybe that's the way to go if you don't want full coilover with cutting the spindle. I've been running D2 suspension for a long time now and nothing else compares, in my humble opinion.

That's why I downloaded the manuals years ago. Just in case

New to the platform and to cars in general :/
psu_Crash replied to nattopig808's topic in Newbie Introduction
Welcome! My advice would be to get it running on the stock engine. Then clean it up and take care of all the maintenance it needs. Doing a swap is not for the faint of heart. It will take 4 times longer than you think and cost 3x as much, at least. Saying you are "new to cars" and then following it up with swap plans is likely to end up a disaster and/or never get finished. -
That bit of extra tire is good insurance against curb rash on your wheels. I've never heard of someone wanting to go more narrow with the tires.

If only you weren't 1000 miles away ...

I wouldn't think the limits come into play when posting a pic that's hosted elsewhere... odd.

I have been using imageshack since the beginning and *knock on wood* it has always been good. ... i wonder if my old how to stuff is still live. If not, I should be able to fix it
-
Broken links and no pics definitely make a lot of it less than ideal. Finding someone willing to put in the time to clean it up is the problem now

I like where your head is at! Unfortunately I cannot help. Years ago there was a file that members had used. Natallica may be a good source... if he was still around. Shoot me a PM so I don't forget and I'll reach out to him later on.
