Frustrating Rich Condition
gofastredstar replied to gofastredstar's topic in MPI/Standalone Trials and Tribulations
Oops, that needs to be changed out, must over looked it, running a map sensor of course. Speaking of map senors, a little side note that a bit amusing, err maybe. I deceided to pull my plugs and do a compression test as part of troubleshooting a high boost condition. Plugs looked good, nice carmel color with a bit of carbon on the threads. Compression was good as well, couldnt be more pleased. Put it back together, and @#$ it wont idle, blowing smoke out the tail pipe. Knowing I hadnt done anything but pull the plugs, disconnected the fuel injectors and tested the compression, I figured maybe I had the plug wires out of orders. Checked, they were good. Still wont idle unless I hold it with the gas pedal. Well hell, guess I'll pull the plugs again. Of course there are now jacked, all wet with fuel and soot all over them. I had a uses set i threw in there to try it again, but decided best check plug wires in case I had a terminator that had pulled loose. Ohm values for all were good. Still wont idle and blowing smoke. Grrr, so I go get my laptop, hook it up and its "idling" at 275kpa! Waaaaa? No wonder, its idling at the top of them ve table. Stumped on this one, so I just went over to my blue car, stole the map sensor off it it, tada, idles perfert again at 40kpa. Weirdest damn thing, I have no idea why the sensor whould go bad during a compression test. Anyway, I have been messing with the map more, but still can get the rich condition out. Its minor, but I sure would like to figure out whats going on with it. Thanks -

Yes, I have lowered the values quite a bit, and took ego step % to zero so it wont hunt during cruising. It seems to be a bit rich in this condition, but runs well. When I say rich, meaning it cruises around 12.0. I can lean it out just a bit more, then turn on the ego step again. All, this being said, its still goes 10.0 when getting back into throttle after shifting gears. -

Whaaaaaaaa? No 02 sensor input. How do you log afr's or even know that your hitting 12.0 or better under boost? -

Was re-reading this again, I still dont know anything about ego correction. I can find anything related in MS 2.25. I have tried making tpsdot 49.0 and zeroed out ae but still rich. I am leaning towards just learning to live with it. I have also brought the values down on the first row of the ve table to 4. Overall the car runs good, its just this issue that has me stumped. -

Yea, I don't mess with the required fuel after the initial startup and good idle. From there I only adjust the ve table. If a bit rich, then I adjust the area that the "bouncing ball" is in. And when I started this thread about the rich area of the map, tech suggested lowering that area on the bottom row to zero. There is already quite a dip in the values, but I saw the "bouncing ball" in this area was rich while i was driving. Changing those values to zero or zeroing out the excel enrichments and making the tpsdot 50 are two options I will be trying out Monday. -

What I did to get it running for the first time is put like 8.0 in required fuel, fired it up it it would and then brought req fuel down to what got it to idle best. I didn't run the required fuel wizard, or whatever its called. So the setting might be off, but once it idled good, then I messed with the ve table. The way I see it you could put in any value in req fuel the adjust the ve table. Dunno. -

Im running a 19c so my required fuel might be a bit more, but probably not really. I can bump that down easy enough. What I will do is change the tpsdot and remove all the ae and leave the ve table as it is. I daily drive this thing to work and datalog each trip. It wont take long to get the ve table narrowed in. And since its daily driving, I typically don't romp in it much. Oh occasionally of course, thats what the turbos for! -

Man, some super tuning knowledge on here. Much thanks. Goes to show, I have two cars that run FIP, tuned with MS, for over 4 years now and I still dont know sheet about tuning. As you can see by my file names I am trying to get a good driveability tune. 100% throttle for the dyno is easy by comparison. A friend and I tuned this on the dyno for max power, and got 11.8 all the way across, but LOL, I could hardly drive the thing home after that. So looking at my map above, your saying make the tpsdot something like 5.0, and make all the accel enrichments 0 then just adjust the ve table? Sounds simple enough, but my concern is not having any accel enrichments, and that I would have to tune for any/all throttle responses. If thats the case, just run the car off ve tuning only? -

Fuel Puddling in the intake? Hmm, hadnt thought of that. You might be on to something there. If thats the case, there is nothing I can do about it I suspect. -

Hi all. Hey I have a FIP system installed, and while its not MPI, I have another car that is FIP'ed and is MPI. I have no tuning issues with it, but this throttle body car has given me problems. I figured somebody here could help out. Here is the issue, really the car runs good, and I am just knit picking issues but I have an area on the map that is rich all the time. I have tuned and tuned and tuned and cant seem to get it out. The scenario is when I shift gears, and the rmps drop, immediately after getting back into the throttle, regardless of the amount it goes 10.0 on the afrs for just a sec. I have messed with the acc enrichments quite a bit, and the decel enrichments as well with no luck. So, when back into the throttle the engine is massive rich and wont excel for a sec. Here is a pict of the log so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks for the help. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2709/4133087999_b9edf09935_o.jpg Here i moved the cursor over and circled the area I am talking about. Notice how rich it is. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2551/4133118527_98a73b93b1_o.jpg

Anybody ever run Nitrous on Hyper-U pistons??
gofastredstar replied to eviper21's topic in Advanced Virtual Mechanic
I dynoed at 306/412 with MPI and a 50 trim turbo, while running hypers. This was with 23 lbs boost and 23 degrees of timing. I keep turning up the boost and advancing the timing to make more power when the car started smoking bad. I figured the hypers had finally giving it up. After getting the car home and pulling the head, the piston looked like new. No damage, it ending up being a bad turbo. I dont know how well the pistons will hold up to repeated abuse, but I can tell you I pushed it hard on the dyno, and didnt have a good tune initally. This engine had seen a 16g throttle body, 12a mpi, and 60-1 mpi and has over 12k miles on it and still runs good. My thoughts are that it will eventually go, and I will build a forged engine, but so far I have been pleased with the hypers. -

Paid, thanks. -
Very cool, I have mine too, I havent been flying in quite a while, but theres nothing like it. Whats your plans now, looking at renting, buying or building a plane of your own, or work on an IFR rating, or multi-engine, or complex? Mine is IFR and to finish the @#$% RV7 i started that is sitting in the garage. Congrats again.

Nope, more likely Nancy Pelosi.

Or consider yourself done when you hit your hp goals. 350 or 400 whatever and start putting the money somewere else. g54b can be made to hit 400 and that plenty good for the street.

the cowl area behind the hood -
You can get one from forced performance for $180. I had to get one for my turbo, but I sent them the whole turbo so they could mount it and have it balanced. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/3128422632_d416326096_o.png
