By the way, I was going through an old file cabinet at my parents and ran across one of those same key rings. We had a number of Chryslers in the 80s. I had a 1987 LeBaron GTS (which I loved) and wondered if it had come from that car. It will go with my Fiji project, whenever that's finished. 🙂

Thanks, Kev. When the key is turned, there is nothing, dead silence, though 10-15 minutes earlier it did recrank when stalling. The guy I got it from also mentioned the fusable links so that's where I'll begin. It's on coilovers and rides pretty stiffly. Combined with some not great roads, something easily could have been jostled loose.

No worries, Gibbon. One of my first posts was to ask what the best engine swap would be. They were chasing me out of town with pitchforks and torches! 😄 I think/hope that they've forgiven me.

I hope this doesn't overlap the similar thread but searching for this exact problem was challenging. I took out the modified 87 Conquest on Easter Sunday. My subdivision is kind of hilly and it stalled as I came down a hill and made a sharp left turn (my foot was on the clutch) at low speed. It was just like it was turned off, not like I'd gone too slow in first gear without the clutch depressed. It cranked back up before I'd come to a complete stop. Then, maybe 15 minutes later, it stalled again making a sharp left turn at low speed. This time it wouldn't recrank and really wouldn't do anything (nothing lit up, not attempt to turn over) when the key was turned. I do get the "key in ignition" noise when I open the door. Jump starting did nothing. The battery is just a couple months old. I flipped through my Chilton's manual while I waited for the tow truck but found lots of possibilities. I was hoping someone might know what to try first. I imagine it was just coincidence that it was a left turn that stalled me, but the first turn (when it first stalled) was pretty similar to how I turn off my (kind of steep) driveway onto the road, and it didn't stall there, it was 15-20 seconds later when I made another sharp, low speed left.

I've moved two (from Steve as a matter of fact) on Uhaul trailers. We backed one on, which created another issue with the angle of the front. I fortunately have an air suspension and I put it on the highest setting which improved the angle of the ramps and we got it on safely. The other car already had damage to the air dam (I had a spare I was going to use) so we didn't worry about it. I will say that it towed really well behind my truck. I only knew it was back there when I checked my mirrors--though I'm pretty cautious when towing so that was fairly often. Be prepared for a lot of people wondering what on earth that awesome looking car you're towing is. LOL.

I'll upload pictures of the spray paint cans when I am allowed to. Apparently the limit is 3.85kb per day??? It was a warm, sunny day when I painted it. Not sure about humidity. I tried twice with the same results each time.

Sounds about like me. I stumbled across that site a month or two ago and wondered if anyone here had experience with it and if it was one of the forum members.

I've tried spraying my top windshield trim (not currently on the car) with both the SEM and the Dupli-Color and I'm not getting a nice, smooth matte finish. It's coming otu with what I might call a "textured" look. The surface of the trim is smooth (under the paint) but I'm not getting good results. I don't have a lot of experience doing this so any tips for getting a smoother finish? I did shake the cans for at least a minute before spraying. Also, are these products good for the rear bumper (on one of my cars its black--not body colored.) Thanks, Mark

I FINALLY got the old, crumbling clips out and cleared enough of the urethane or whatever it is to slide the new ones on. It really was a good test of patience. I didn't use the Dremel route, but a razor blade, very small screwdriver, and needle nose pliers. Before I install the replacement piece, I began to wonder if there is a good way to restore its color (as well as the other windshield trim pieces?)

Hey Techboy, I'm finally doing this myself. I have the old clips 95% out but did not remove any of the caulk gunk. Did you put any more "gunk" on it before snapping the trim back on? Anything to help it stick better than the clips alone? I have replacement clips ready to go.

I have 245/50 in the rear but 245/45 was actually SHP stock wasn't it?

Thanks all. On the wiper cowls, any thoughts on how to visually restore them? Meaning they've faded a bit. Is it better to try to repaint them (removing them first) or use one of the many plastic restore products?

Thanks. It's months from being needed so I'm in no hurry. Can you 3D print wiper cowls too? 😁 They seem ok now, but apparently are prone to breaking.

My project car is missing the wiper fluid cap. It will be a while before it's even drivable but I wonder if these caps are relatively universal?

Goals: (I realize I am writing these as if the car has none of them in stock form.) These are pretty much in order of importance. Durability, to the extent that a 35 year old car can be. Performance (sporty/spirited--not sure I can put an HP number on it--250-300?) A nice looking engine bay (may sound lame but some guys on here have turned theirs into a work of art.) Handling improvements if there are any to be had. (I think it has new rear struts but may need to look into the front) I actually have a modified silver Conquest that has really good handling. Both have the SHP. The silver one is lowered on coilovers, but I'm not sure if it's had anything else done beyond the new tires I put on it. Budget: Currently around $9-10,000 but it does need some minor bodywork and a paint job. It's a bit of a passion project so to an extent, I'll be ok with having more in the car than it's worth--as long as I get some years of enjoyable driving out of it. I'll add that if I spent that much and then decided I like it, but now I wish it also had "XYZ," I'd certainly consider a budget amendment. This is the car--just posted it in another thread.
