  1. Well duhh, small cars aren't as safe as larger mass vehicles. But they are still safer than getting hit on a motorcycle. People are aware of this when they buy them. But what are ya gonna do... Drive a bus around? Who cares how small they are.
  2. The idea that banks were forced to give Loans to people is crazy. Banks and lenders were making lots of money on every loan. I had friends that were having a house built before the collapse, their budget was $400,000. That's what they decided they could afford. They were approved for $700,000 based on their income. And no, barney frank did not force the bank to offer that much. As for the deficits you can't compare the bush deficits to obamas because all the war spending was not included during bush. You have to compare total spending not the budget deficits. The reality is that our grandkids aren't going to pay it back. The 1.3 trillion that Reagan borrowed never got payed back. Now its so high its mathematically impossible to pay down. All we can hope for is not to add to it any more. Problem is that all that borrowed money is part of our propped up economy and has been for a long time. And props to Ron Paul he is by far the most consistent politician alive. It's also nice to see a republican march to the beat of his own drum instead of the drum of limbaugh or fox news. He panders to no one, it seems. Which really sets himself apart from the rest.
  3. Yeah what is up with that? Its not election time yet. Gotta wait another year before the "there gonna take our guns..." rhetoric starts up again. I do find it interesting that now the boogie man is the UN instead of Obama. I was sure Obama was gonna take our guns. We theres always his second term.
  4. Like Shelby said, bigger is not better even for N/A applications. But I think a lot of people still have this "race cam" or "292" or "performance cam" mentality when it comes to turbo cars. Yes it would be nice to just by a hot cam bolt it in and have more power, torque, and RPM's, but with boost I believe the cam should be the last mod, not the first like in the N/A world. Interesting article in hotrod magazine a while back. http://www.hotrod.com/pitstop/hrdp_1011_cams_for_turbocharged_engines/index.html "To get the skinny on cam design for boosted applications, we consulted Billy Godbold, Comp Cams' head camshaft designer. Because turbo applications make such dramatic power, the common misconception is that the intake and exhaust port velocities need to be quite high, in turn mandating very large-duration camshafts to make a given amount of power. Actually, the exact opposite is true. Because of the increased pressure along with a corresponding increase in oxygen and fuel density, more fuel and air are moving into the chamber, but the velocity is actually lower. The combustion chamber pressure therefore rises more quickly, and filling occurs earlier in the stroke compared with a similar NA application. Put all this together, and what works best in a turbo application is a smaller camshaft than the profiles normally specified for NA engines. Because overlap needs to favor the intake side, turbo cams tend toward far less duration than in an NA application. While the exhaust looks small, the exhaust opening point does not move as much as the exhaust closing point. The biggest change is overlap because you are no longer using the exiting exhaust to draw in the intake charge. Instead, exhaust energy drives the turbocharger to pressurize the inlet charge". Plus I dont think hardly any cam grinders have really done much dyno testing to see what really works with boost. What really works for them are big numbers like "292", thats what sells cams.
  5. From the FAQ. TPS part numbers. Mitsu Part # MD614078 $153.50 @ autopartspeople.com < great price! Standard Motor Products (SMP) # TH249 $159 @ rockauto.com AIRTEX Part # 5S5098 $169 @ rockauto.com ACDELCO Part # 2132122 $167 @ rockauto.com Also a 89 hyundia sonata 2.4 is the same one but with a different connector (male instead of female). SMP Part # TH315 $133 @ partsamerica.com / $95 @ rockauto.com ACDELCO Part # 2134091 $89 @ rockauto.com AIRTEX Part # 5S5183 $94 @ rockauto WELLS # TPS451 $113 @ autozone (NOTE: These prices are from 2007) You just have to mount the hyundia TPS upside down, (so the wires come out the top instead of the bottom) and change out the connector. The wires are the same colors.
  6. LOL. OMG, I just found out that $7-$8 a gallon, "off-road use only" "race gas" is illegal to use on the street. And its all because of the tree huggers...LOL Look out Mike the sky is falling, better sent out some angry emails. ha. Californias CARB does have some rules to get upset about like a "modified exhaust" but this race fuel thing is pretty standard every where. Its like people cant even see facts or individual issues anymore. Its all partisan idiology for every topic. Even race gas, somehow anyone who thinks that race gas should not be used be used on the street is now a tree hugging commie.
  7. How about we just invade mexico. They are a threat to us, with their signs and stuff. Plus they have oil. Seriously the only long term solution is to change the way their goverment works. Or...because they come here for work, we could move all our factories out of commie China and put them just south of the border. That way they can stay there, and we could have access to jobs down there too.(jobs they dont want to do) I'm sure they will let us come through the border to work...right?
  8. Dont worry about estimates and repairs right now. First you need to agree on a value for your car. You need do some work to get the value up. You need to send them all your reciets, plus send them a list of what other nice SQ's are selling for. Now even if you were gonna paint it the next day, they dont owe you the value of a nice SQ with new paint, they owe you for a SQ that needed a paint job. So you need to supply them with estimates of how much it would have cost you (or a shop) to paint that side. You also need to let them know your a semi pro painter. Then hopefully they can deduct that cost from what the value would be if you had painted it just before the accident. Once you get the value up and agree, to say $4000, they might want to fix it (minus paint) instead of totaling it. If they still want to total it out, you still can take a lower amount (the max they would pay to fix it. usually 80% of its value) and keep the car to fix yourself without having a branded "totaled" title. Basicaly this is what happened with my wifes vr6 jetta. They said its worth $1200 so its totaled. I said no its a GLX vr6 with leather its worth $5000. They eventually agreed the value was $4500. Now that the value was more its not an automatic total. The repair estimate was under the value. Long story short we kept the car and after the deductable we got a check for like $2800. Could have gotten more if they totalled it, but I fixed it and its on the road still with a clean title. PS anytime an insurance adjuster gives you an estimate for repairs, its always gonna be half of what it will really cost. After its in the shop, the shop will bill the insurance as a "suppliment" for the rest. They do this because some people will just cash the check and not fix the car. This makes it tough if you want to fix it yourself because you cant do a "suppliment" only body shops can.
  9. Well the sucky part is if they do pay for it, since its sanded down they are gonna say there was previouse damage and the value of the car is gonna be way way down compaired to shiny paint. I went through this once with a primered car that got hit.
  10. Well I think capping this thing off is going to be harder than they want us to know. Its a mile down and the remote subs havent been able to do it. I bet something will have to be custom built to stop it. They said one solution would be to drill another well next to it to relieve the pressure. That does not sound like a quick fix. Could this take months to stop? If So, I doubt BP would say so.
  11. wait...what? I know a Garen but he didnt draw that. hmm does it realy say Garen '05? interesting. Didnt know there was more than one. Oh, and yeah the Genesis SHOULD be re-badged as a Starion or Conquest. It comes with the EVO turbo or 300 hp V6 and its RWD. OR....... at least its a candidate for a SQ engine & tranny swap.
  12. Rock chips are covered by comprehensive, which also covers vandalism, theft and if a tree falls on it. Like Mike said a wiper scratch might not be covered, but a vandalism scratch would. What you could do is later you get a rock chip. Call a glass place that will handle the claim for you. Or if you have to go through progressive direct do that. A glass guy will come out to change the wind shield and he's not going to care if it has a rock chip or a scratch. When I had the windshields in my explorer and starion done the insurance company never looked at it before they were replaced. The one thing the insurance wants is an exact date the rock chip happened, so if you waited until you got 4 rock chips like I did, then waited before you got them fixed you have to tell them it just happened. I recommend comprehensive with a $100 deductible. With most cars, glass companies will pay the deductible or give you a $100 discount so it costs nothing. Comprehensive is not that expensive either.
  13. Boy they are really scrambling to fill those orders. What dedication.
  14. Besides Like Jay Leno says "Its not the cars that are the problem...its the fuel" There are so many reasons to move away from middle eastern fossil fuel, and cutting the CO2 is one small part. Any internal combustion engine can run on hydrogen instead of gasoline. And pretty soon your average electric vehicle is going to embarrace modified hot rods and muscle cars in the 1/4 mile. If gas is going to be 5$ and up a gallon (or much much more when the oil runs out). I will happily convert my buick 455 to run on something else. One thing I have noticed from the deniers is first global warming was a hoax, then when Bush acknowledged "climate change" it was...well its getting hotter but its not because of humans, its the sun, or something, or anything other than man. Now that Obama's in we are back to its a hoax and its even getting colder...AND its a government/world conspiracy to take our SUV's away. Eventually the truth, science, and fact will prevail, unless your stuck in an alternate reality.
  15. First off, that site has no credibility and is full of BS. That whole story is a fabrication. 16. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gGAa00xryzkYa7FUhfip-CDPM_tgD9BITAG00 WASHINGTON The Earth is still warming, not cooling as some global warming skeptics are claiming, according to an analysis of global temperatures by independent statistics experts. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091026/ap_on_bi_ge/us_sci_global_cooling Have you heard that the world is now cooling instead of warming? You may have seen some news reports on the Internet or heard about it from a provocative new book. Only one problem: It's not true, according to an analysis of the numbers done by several independent statisticians for The Associated Press. http://features.csmonitor.com/environment/2009/10/20/has-global-cooling-begun/ The record-breaking temperatures in 1998 occurred after three decades of warming, starting in the 1970s. These decades saw an increase in global average temperature of about 0.45 °C. After 1998, however, warming slowed significantly trends over the past 10 years show only a 0.07 °C increase in global average temperature. Although this is only a small increase, it indicates that there has been no global cooling over this period. In fact, over the past decade, most years have remained much closer to the record global average temperature reached in 1998 than to temperatures before the 1970s. All the years from 2000 to 2008 have been in the top 14 warmest years on record. Do statistics have an agenda? http://features.csmonitor.com/environment/wp-content/assets/2/1073/article_photo1_sm.jpg
  17. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/av-3235.gif I wonder how this "government agency" can put people on the moon, and robots on the surface of mars, must be blind luck. There science must be all completely made up... in your world I guess. Do you think the same about the military, police, and fire dept? You hate America...admit it. Since you dont believe in NASA science, please stop using GPS's, cell phones, satalite TV, tang, and velcro. thanks.
  18. Is NASA a credible source? http://www.nasa.gov/worldbook/global_warming_worldbook.html "Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of Earth's surface. Since the late 1800's, the global average temperature has increased about 0.7 to 1.4 degrees F (0.4 to 0.8 degrees C). Many experts estimate that the average temperature will rise an additional 2.5 to 10.4 degrees F (1.4 to 5.8 degrees C) by 2100. That rate of increase would be much larger than most past rates of increase. Scientists worry that human societies and natural ecosystems might not adapt to rapid climate changes. Climatologists (scientists who study climate) have analyzed the global warming that has occurred since the late 1800's. A majority of climatologists have concluded that human activities are responsible for most of the warming." http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2003/1023esuice.html RECENT WARMING OF ARCTIC MAY AFFECT WORLDWIDE CLIMATE "Recently observed change in Arctic temperatures and sea ice cover may be a harbinger of global climate changes to come, according to a recent NASA study. Satellite data -- the unique view from space -- are allowing researchers to more clearly see Arctic changes and develop an improved understanding of the possible effect on climate worldwide." http://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/topnav/materials/listbytype/The_Influence_of_Global_Warming_on_Earths_Systems.html The Influence of Global Warming on Earth's Systems http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2004/0315humidity.html SATELLITE FINDS WARMING "RELATIVE" TO HUMIDITY http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/GlobalWarming/ Over the last five years, 600 scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sifted through thousands of studies about global warming published in forums ranging from scientific journals to industry publications and distilled the worlds accumulated knowledge into this conclusion: Warming of the climate system is unequivocal. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/GlobalWarming/global_warming_update3.php Evidence for Global Warming Recent observations of warming support the theory that greenhouse gases are warming the world. Over the last century, the planet has experienced the largest increase in surface temperature in 1,300 years. The average surface temperature of the Earth rose 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.08°F to 1.62°F) between 1906 and 2006, and the rate of temperature increase nearly doubled in the last 50 years. Worldwide measurements of sea level show a rise of about 0.17 meters (0.56 feet) during the twentieth century. The worlds glaciers have steadily receded, and Arctic sea ice extent has steadily shrunk by 2.7 percent per decade since 1978. But how do scientists know global warming is caused by humans and that the observed warming isnt a natural variation in Earths climate? Scientists use three closely connected methods to understand changes in Earths climate. They look at records of Earths past climates to see how and why climate changed in the past, they build computer models that allow them to see how the climate works, and they closely monitor Earths current vital signs with an array of instruments ranging from space-based satellites to deep sea thermometers. Records of past climate change reveal the natural eventssuch as volcanic eruptions and solar activitythat influenced climate throughout Earths history. Like detectives at a crime scene, scientists reconstruct past climate changes by looking for evidence left in things like glacial ice, ocean sediments, rocks, and trees. For example, glacial ice traps tiny samples of Earths atmosphere, giving scientists a record of greenhouse gases that stretches back more than 650,000 years, and the chemical make-up of the ice provides clues to the average global temperature. From these and other records, scientists have built a record of Earths past climates, or paleoclimates. Paleoclimatology allowed scientists to show that climate changes in the past have been triggered by variations in Earths orbit, solar variation, volcanic eruptions, and greenhouse gases. http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/ice_sheets.html Impact of Climate Warming on Polar Ice Sheets Confirmed 03.08.06 In the most comprehensive survey ever undertaken of the massive ice sheets covering both Greenland and Antarctica, NASA scientists confirm climate warming is changing how much water remains locked in Earth's largest storehouse of ice and snow. so we know that we don't want to have warming of 5 or 10 degrees. But how damaging is 1 or 2 or 3 degrees? We don't really know that. If we want to find a climate that was warmer by 6-9 degrees Fahrenheit, we have to go all the way back to the middle Pliocene, about 3 million years ago. And at that time sea level was about 25 to 35 meters higher than it is today. That’s about -- 25 meters is about 80 feet. So, it is a huge sea level change. Plus many more on the NASA site. Also many of these studies were done during the Bush years, so don't blame some Obama conspiracy. Yes the climate is supposed to change...but we aren't supposed to be able to watch it happen. Also in the 60's or 70's there were was a "pannel" doctors who testified that smoking was not bad for you. They were all on the the payroll of the cigarette companies.
  19. Could be a bad injector. Have you swapped them out with known good ones? Are they the correct injectors?
  20. If that list is really accurate...I bet some dealers got really creative on some of those trade-ins. The dealers can part them out. Most cars' parts are worth more than the car. $4500 from the gov. and in some cases $4000 in parts. The way some dealers are it wouldn't surprise me if some of those were regular trade-ins and the dealer "clunkered" it and parted it out or sold it for parts instead of wholesaling it. I also bet some of the engines in certain cars did not get destroyed but went home with a worker.
  21. Actually the starion intake is equal length, and the caravan is not. The caravan intake has straight runners and some people think this alone makes it better. I dont think anyone has ever done back to back dyno testing with no other changes. There is a reason mitsu did not use the caravan intake (which was already available) on a turbo car.
  22. Yeah, the scam she is talking about is the fake pimps and prostitutes, who failed to get the responce they were looking for (something that would make ACORN look bad) in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia etc. There are hundreds of offices. Like I said, do that same thing anywhere and eventually you will talk to complete idiots or just plain unlawful people. That lady should be fired, if she was even paid. So why dont they post all the so called others that gave simular advice? Why dont they post up the ones who did the right thing? They probably went to a hundred different offices before they found that lady. Plus the thing with hidden cameras is you never know what the set up could have been. You could tell them ahead of time you are doing a school video project so just play along or something to that effect.
  23. No, ACORN does not register voters.only the secretarys of state can register voters after their info is verified. ACORN gathered applications, with some filled out with micky mouse or made up names. But because the law says ALL applications gathered MUST be turned in the bogus ones were screened out and turned in separetly. The reason ALL applications MUST be turned in is to prevent groups from only turning in Rep or Dem apps and throwing out the rest. I could link to conservative groups that got in trouble (broke the law) for doing just that...only turning in republican apps. but it really doesnt matter anyway. Even if somehow the state verified and registered mickey mouse and dead people, they arent going to show up to vote. People voting more than once just doesnt happen. People showing up to vote and finding out their registration has been purged did happen and is a real issue.
  24. Those low level employes should be fired and prosicuted if they broke the law, even though it was not a real scenerio. The video was compiled by conservative activist and filmmaker James O'Keefe and TownHall.com columnist Hannah Giles. They were going to ACORN's offices and, in O'Keefe's words, "posing the most ridiculous criminal scenario we could think of and seeing if they would comply". Like SQF said if you did the exact same thing at almost any place, even churches, or congress, (specialy politicians) your gonna get some nasty responces and damaging video. You just keep shooting and eventually you will get some dirt.
  25. No I think its great that we as a society can provide kids treatment when their parents arent billionairs or lost or denied coverage by insurance companies who are trying to make the most profit off us. Some families are paying more for coverage than their morgage. Its really getting out of hand. We already pay twice as much for everything health care related because its all about profit.
