Some people put flex fans on to try to band aid a cooling issue. Hopefully that's not the case with your SQ. I put a flex fan on my mazda truck many years ago. I regretted it on the first trip. It was much slower and noisier. Truck only had 97hp and the fan was probably soaking up 20+hp. I hated driving that truck with the clutch fan.

Flex fans are noisy and soak up alot of HP. I would remove the flex fan.

The stock sensor puts out a really low voltage that will be hard to hear. Try this. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127345

No need to be careful since it's all apart. Soap, water and a toothbrush. Use a little RTV on the diaphragm sealing surface when you re assemble it. The diaphragm must be 100% leak free for the actuator to work.

No he's had this truck for a long time. Sorry to hear. Guess I was right about the rebuild.

The 87, 88 and 89 FSM states all starters have a 9 tooth gear and a 1.2 kw motor. There may be some un-published differences between auto and manual but they are minimal. I remember reading somewhere that auto trans starters had an 8 tooth gear but I can't confirm that.

Basically any filter media will work. Used drier sheets, cut up foam, scotch brite pad, anything that will filter air. I folded a couple layers of used drier sheet for my filters. Just cut to fit the opening and make sure it fits semi loosely. Don't pack filter media in there tightly or you wont get any air flow through it.

I have a restored and painted air cleaner assembly that includes a known working maf sensor, the box that houses it and a K&N air filter I'll let go for $100 + shipping. It's off an 87 but will work fine on an 89. Just plug the air bypass port if you have an 89 acordian hose.

Custom start-up/seat belt/check engine light sound.
ucw458 replied to 89andBlue's topic in Just plain ol' B.S.
An arduino playing a sound file through a speaker might be one option. A cheaper but less elegant solution would be one of those birthday cards that lets you record a greeting. Record the airplane sound then use the factory buzzer wiring to power the card. You may have to add a voltage regulator to get the correct voltage. You also may need constant but slight battery power to retain the sound file and then the buzzer wiring triggers a relay that activates the card. -
It's the only NPT fitting on the whole car. Yes I've put a NPT plug there for storing motors. Threads match perfectly.
-
Yes it needs a good ground to work.

steel and 1/2" NPT

Try cleaning the electrical contacts first. Corrosion will stop it from working.

You have more than 10 posts. Now you post questions in the VM section.

I had curb feelers my 67 ford when I got it decades ago. First thing I did was take them off. Then I fixed the motor.

If you have spark then the ECI relay is powering up. That relay has 2 circuits. The first with ignition on powers the ECU, injectors and ignitor. The second powers the fuel pump when the ECU tells it to turn on. Both get power from a single wire running off the ECI fuse link. If you are not getting an ignition pulse to pin 1 on the large ecu connector then you have a wiring problem. White wire in the corner of the connector is the ignition signal wire. If you do have a signal there and injectors have 12v+ then you could have a bad ECU.
-
Looks like an 84 not an 83. 83 didn't have fog lamps in the bumper just bigger turn signals.

HG starting to go. It's common to blow between cylinders 2-3. Check the block and head to make sure they are flat.

Sorry to hear about the truck. But it's been due for an overhaul for some time now. That thing has lost alot of power since we went to sacramento. Was it the faulty injector or something worse?

Attached to the metal plate next to the brake booster. It looks just like the metal plate the wiper motor bolts to.

If he has insurance on his other cars then he's covered on the new car. You have something like 10 days grace period to tell your insurance about a new car. Max payout for uninsured motorist coverage is $3k. Full coverage insurance will cover damages beyond $3k. But the uninsured motorist payout hinges on the other driver admitting he had no insurance. If he doesn't confirm that with your insurance you get nothing.

What fuel pressure you guys running?
ucw458 replied to Preludedude's topic in Advanced Virtual Mechanic
You need the rising rate regulator on boosted cars. Lets say the injector needs 40 psi to spray correctly so you set your regulator to 40 psi. That's 40 at atmospheric pressure. Now you boost to 15 psi and the manifold pressure cancels out 15 psi of fuel pressure. Now the injectors are firing poorly at 25 psi. A rising rate regulator ups the fuel pressure to compensate for boost pressure. So at 15 psi of boost the fuel pressure will be 55 psi. -
That sucks dude. Are you ok? Didn't I just weld the frame together on that around 2 months ago? At least you got to enjoy it a bit before it died. At least now you have an engine and black interior to swap into the other car. If I can get some house stuff done quickly I may have room and a little time to put your other car together.
