All the sudden the pop up light housings on my 87 wont go down.  Light themselves working. Did some digging and found this thread..

heres caliber 308's check list

1. Sub fusible link 1.  good

2. Fuse no.4.  good

3. Lighting switch.  switched for another off my other car that works, no change

4. Pop up Motor Relay.   swap both relays from other car, no change

5. Passing Control Relay.    swapped from other car, no change. You can hear the original working as it should as well

6. Pop up Motor.    Highly unlikey both crapped out at the same time, rotated both headlights by hand and both move freely

7.Wiring harness and connector connection.  checked just about everything, nothing visually wrong, jiggled the wires by hand, nothing

8. Ground.  checked all grounds

Thoughts?

Double check that the button to raise them with no lights isn’t pushed or (or thinks it is)

my one car I need to push the headlight button and hold it for them to raise and push again and hold for them to go down

Did you happen to unplug the light controller on the left side of the glovebox?   If this is unplugged, your headlights will go up and then not come down with the switch.

Have you tried turning the knobs on the headlight motors?  Do they happen to go down on their own after a turn or two?

I did have a car where both headlights would ‘stick’ in the open position.   Had to take a part both motor assemblies and clean up the contact plates really good.

I have no thoughts myself other than to say good luck figuring it out and post up when you do.  I sympathize with you.  Headlight issues are a pain on these cars.  I went through several months last car show season where they would pop up and down, but I had no light.  I got stranded at a car show that ended at 11 at night with no headlights and my wife had to come get after she went to bed.  She wasn't too happy.  I ended up having to replace the relays in the fuse block behind the metal cover hidden behind the battery.  Took me a bit to diagnose and figure out though till I got it corrected.
