JRToy4x4
Hello, I am trying to bring a modified Conquest back to a milder level. It presently has an 18g turbo along with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator (at least that's what I thought it was when it was installed 20 years ago). I plan to replace this with a 14g turbo, and am wondering if the additional fuel pressure regulator would even be needed? I'd like to simplify the car a bit. I do have an A/F ratio gauge (based off a 1-wire O2 sensor) to keep an eye on things. Thanks, Jason
tux
More fuel for more boost. with a 14g at stock boost levels you should be fine with the stock fpr. i would confirm against a wideband o2 when making changes
admin_JAinsworth
Generally fuel pressure should be ~38 psi when not in boost. Pressure should rise one psi per pound of boost. ( e.g. 5 pounds of boost should have 38 psi plus 5 or 43 psi of fuel pressure). Jimmy
GoldStar
Ditto the above, but another reason for adjusting the fuel pressure is if you have non-stock injectors. I know my mystery/Delphi injectors ran better when at 42-43 PSI idle. Definitely recommend a wideband sensor for the AFR reading. If you have any issues/doubts over your current fuel pressure regulator, spaturbousa make a bolt-in adjustable FPR that works quite well for our cars. JRToy4x4
Good info, thank you! I am sorry I didn't reply sooner, I thought I was getting emails when replies posted. Is there a way to install a wide band 02 sensor on the '87 cars?
scott87star
My 87 has run a wideband O2 mounted in the factory spot for 30K plus miles without issue, still working fine. If you’re still running the factory ECU you can run the narrow band output from the wideband ( most have them) to the ECU.
