Power steering reservoir hose?

Recommended Posts

2 questions.

1. Power steering reservoir hose, anyone run silicone? The "Gates" parts store stuff is rock hard after a year.

2. Can an admin change my permissions? I like to add some knowledge to the occasional post that I might happen to know something about.

And I do know a few things, been a mechanic for decades.

Thanks

I just use replacement hose from the dealer.

I also run a gates hose and I agree. It isn't ideal. Maybe look for something that is rated for ATF. I never took the time .. yet

I would NOT run silicone. Pretty sure I tried that on something similar and it would sweat though and get very soft

Edit:

Yep. Here's the picture proof https://www.instructables.com/Why-Silicone-Hoses-Cannot-Be-Used-for-Oil-and-Fuel/

Oh. Damn. Well, that's not gonna work. Thanks for the info.
I hate supporting the dealer.
Hmm, maybe something PTFE??

I mean for those reservoir hoses it cost me maybe 20$
