obsolete
Been there. Just keep making revisions, you'll get it right. And optimize the design to reduce plastic so you don't go through so much filament on prototypes 😉
tux
Well, i have a workable design https://photos.app.goo.gl/PbD2xKg39FMMdahc8 Only issue is with OEM rotors, there's about 8mm of pad at the top that doesn't contact the rotors. https://photos.app.goo.gl/wAejnfVAKhHMJn9P6 Hard to get a good pic of it I can't find info on if it would a detrimental issue have the 8mm of pad at the top never wearing. tux
Found a rotor catalog website. Saw Lincoln LS rotors looked to be similar, until i bought some and realized the website have overall height and not the height of the hat. More searching turned up 96 Ford Crown Vic rotors (early bbk threads mentioned these as possible) and some from a BMW. BMW lug pattern is different but Ford is the same. Since i was trying to work with stock rotors i need some minor tweaks to my design because I have interference between the caliper body and rotor. But making progress. https://photos.app.goo.gl/7JNiF3VoUsB4UxXz7 Once i have something close to good enough, I'll have a machinist cut it out of plate for me and I'll see what the minimum wheel spacer I can get away with is. obsolete
If you are going to get something cut out of plate, these guys are great: https://sendcutsend.com/. You can upload your design and get a quote instantly. Their prices are super reasonable.
tux
Cool site, thanks. I'll see if they can do what I need
tux
I finished my design! Im going to compare sendcutsend to local machinist for pricing here's how she looks with a caliper mounted https://photos.app.goo.gl/UhSrn5461KHvJsQa6 I'll rock these for a bit and later start on the ls430 caliper bracket in some time. I probably should have started to design with those as it may have been easier to make in fusion 😜
tux
My 3d prints lined up perfectly, here's to hoping that translates to metal. Fictiv offered the best cost on machining my parts with a 1 month lead time. Sendcutsend, protolabs, xometry were all really, really expensive. My local machinist actually offered a better price than fictiv, but he said he wouldn't have time to do it until september as he's having trouble finding help for his shop. Glad he's busy, he's been great over the years.
tux
so close Didn't account for the shrinkage of my 3d parts ah well to find a drill press to fix it
obsolete
Damn! When I got my parts from SendCutSend that I'd prototyped with 3D prints, the dimensions were dead on. Makes me think you might have a dimensional accuracy issue with your printer that got baked into your design. Looks like the important parts are close enough, though. I'm sure you can make it work. tux
It's most likely my printer and my guessing stick I did get 5 out of 7 holes right though! The other 2 are barely off and... Measuring with my guessing stick and the model, it all matches in measurements. so it was me somewhere that messed up Edited June 27, 2023 by tux
tux
Against all the advice I got, I put an end mill in a junk Chinese drill press and was able to get myself straightened out
