psu_Crash
Maybe I'm not following. Is the missing piece of the case what you are calling the spacer? Looks like a chunk out of the casting. Probably happened when someone replaced the bearings before and went a bit hard. I wouldn't hesitate to just run that after a flush. Just to make sure. Unless I'm missing something? Edited October 23, 2022 by psu_Crash
tux
Maybe I'm wrong but i looks like a pressed-in insert. I though it may be part labeled #2 In the image below: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7fc7HdYLxr41WUmx8 I guess its been chowdered like that ilfor 20+ years without issue. My issue is that i can't get the seal in with that thing all boogered up, they just distort Edited October 24, 2022 by tux
TexasQuest
On my factory parts locator it's called a side bearing spacer. MB185375 88_conquest_parts_locator_-_group_03_-_rear_axle.pdf (starquestgarage.com)

BlueCuda
Not sure if you ever got around to this or not but I just had a diff apart. You have to remove the ring gear and carrier to pull these out. As long as the replacement is the same thickness as the old one its just an R&R deal that is not too difficult that will not require resetting anything. Its not a bad job to do with the whole torque tube and diff assembly removed and on a workbench.
