Turbo Cary
I figured I would post this if anyone is searching for an easy intercooler upgrade. The Evo VIII and X intercoolers are essentially the same core section, the difference is with the end tanks. The 8 has two ports facing downwards (upwards with the way we mount it) and the X has One going upwards, one going sideways. You can easily adapt the X to work by running your pipe from the turbo, down near the charcoal canister and under the headlamp, retain the crossover pipe and have it run to the OVCP pipe. Both the Evo intercoolers use 2.5" piping. I will post pics for comparison later.

Turbo Cary
My friend gave me the evo x intercooler when he upgraded his. It mounts to the body using rubber hangers for an exhaust and has two small brackets on the bottom to bolt to the frame. When mounted that way it would have the ports opposite of what we need them to face. So if you can make a bracket in front the intercooler to brace the bottom it should work just fine. If you notice in the picture the two holes at the bottom are what in referring to. On an evo X it faces the opposite direction. Turbo Cary
Cool let me know how that fits. My plan for the X intercooler was to find bolt in exhaust hanger brackets on either side and make a brace for the bottom. It would probably drop the intercooler an inch or two lower. Skullzaflare
Evo8 will not fit, if mounted the way it is on evo with tubes down it will work with modification to in/out tubes. Would work for mpi, or long piping routing Got a bunch of pics I'll upload tonight

Turbo Cary
It could work for tbi if you route the pipe under the battery and then up

Turbo Cary
In terms of width how much space was there on either side of the core minus the ports hitting? Would offsetting the X intercooler fit?

Maxzillian
I think mine came from an Evo VIII. I ended up cutting the bumper to make it fit, but I honestly advise against getting it to completely fill the air path to the radiator; setup as such airflow to the radiator is restricted too much and cooling can become a challenge. It's a good idea to bypass some air past the intercooler. The inlet end tank was removed so a baffle could be installed and a pipe was welded into the top to mimic stock routing. The outlet was relocated to be able to pass underneath the frame rail and then through the hole where the washer tank used to sit. As I have a relocated battery I was able to run a pipe up through that area and to the throttle body. http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler4.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler5.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler6.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler7.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler8.jpg Everything was torch welded with an arc welder rod. It took forever and looks like hell, but works great and didn't require me to find a TIG.http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler9.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler10.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler11.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler12.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/intercooler13.jpg http://maxzillian.com/starion/enginebay.jpg Edited February 26, 2015 by Maxzillian
