This weekend I worked on installing my hood vent and got the hole cut, the vent trimmed, and then roughly mounted to the car. I still need to finish making the seal that will go between the vent itself and the hood and paint it. I plan on doing that tonight so I'll post pictures after I do that. It looks good so far but I can't wait to see it complete and on the car.

So this first picture is just of me using a marker to do some fancy "Math" to decide where the hole will be. Don't mind the brightly colored table cloth. Thats a performance part!

I cut the hole and did the initial installation of the vent on Saturday at my mothers place due to the fact that she actually has electricity in her garage. I only got the hole cut and the vent roughly mounted before heading home so this is what it looked like right after making it home.

So today after work I went to menards and grabbed a few materials I needed. Mainly paint and some sandpaper. But also some stuff to make a gasket to sit between the vent and the hood. I really want to make sure this thing will be water proof around its edges. I have a whole other plan for water that gets in through the vents.

I started by drilling the rest of the holes in the vent and then prepping it for primer

After that... well I primered it lol. Tomorrow I'll paint it and install it. I'll take some pictures as I go.

Yea understandable. I was excited as hell to get mine on the car too. There was quite a few reasons for placing it where I did in my situation. Firstly it sits over my v-mount duct, second its where the ridges in the hood are raised the least, and lastly the further forward I got the vent the less likely important electronics and other things would get wet. I will be making a rain guard that will attach to the underside of the vent and can be removed for nice days and then installed when its raining. It will angle down and attach to the top intercooler duct.

For now I'm going to leave it rivetted like my over-fenders are. Continuity and all. I did finish painting the vent and installing it late last night but it was too dark for pictures and I've already decided that I am going to repaint it a slightly different way. It looks like a hack job the way I did the paint... I'll probably take a picture of it before I change it so you guys can see a before - after.

I see everyone's loving the table cloth lol. Too bad I burned holes in it while cutting the huge hole haha. I will update this soon not only with the pictures of the finished vent but also of some info for another thing I already started.

Have we found a common denominator?! I'd be curious just what percentage of the starquest community used to ride bmx.

Speaking of bmx... Thule rack ftw

Do I hear twin turbos?? :D

Sadly no you don't lol. Twin turbos is definitely a thing that I will be doing but my stock exhaust manifold has a crack in it and I had to make a decision on how to fix that. Either spend a few hundred dollars and buy a replacement or step up the game a bit haha. I decided I'd step up and not keep spending money on stock parts. After doing a bunch of math and figuring out what it is going to cost me to do my twin turbo setup I decided that I'd prefer to take my time and not half tail that. So in the mean time I ordered a JDL tubular manifold from RonnieJ and had him ceramic coat it. It should be in my hands in a few weeks and then I'll use that for the rest of the warm months this year. I'll aquire parts to build the twin turbo setup all winter and hopefully have that done early next year.

There are a lot of other parts coming for the car though that will go on very soon lol.

So here is a bit of an update. Tonight I installed a catch can I purchased a bit ago. After having a short discussion in another thread I decided on a way to set it up. I used some aluminum plate stock to make a bracket, bolted it to the firewall using two holes that already existed and then used a stainless T-clamp to attach the body. I will keep an eye on this setup and see how it effects the motor. Maybe it will help, maybe it wont. We will see. I definitely plan on doing something with the hose coming off the back of valve cover because I don't like the hose going up that high. I'll try and find something thats a 90 degree bend to use there.

Well I drove to work this morning after installing the catch can and I have to say I'm surprised at how it seems to have changed how the car feels. It feels as if the car is just in general more willing to accelerate, but I am very skeptical and at this point I'll strike that up to a placebo effect until I've driven the car more. What I can report with certainty though is that it has decreased the amount that my car hunts for its "wanted" A/F ratio. Before it would swing a good amount back and forth averaging what I wanted to see it at. Now though it was immediately apparent that it was fluctuating much less. I cannot say what that is from exactly. Maybe someone has an idea as to why?

Either way I am very happy with it so far. I'll keep mentioning how its working weeks and months down the line.
