T-Harps
Hey StarQuestClub, my names Taylor and I'm the proud new owner of an 85 Starion! I bought the car in Victoria, BC in August after my Integra decided to take a dump. I had never seen nor head of a starquest when I saw the ad on craigslist but fell in love with it as soon as I went to see it. She was originally from New Jersey and was imported to Canada a few years back. I have found a couple other quest owners here in Canada, but I'm wondering if there any other flattys here? She also has an electronic dash and stock louvers. The factory paint job was reddish orange with silver accents apparently, but its blue now (possibly Fiji blue, but I cant tell for sure). It has 145000 miles and is in great shape mechanically. The timing chain was recently tightened and the radiator was replaced. The only problems are peeling clear coat on the roof and door, no A/C belt, no antenna, and seized e-brake cables. Also the FPR is zip-tied onto the TB and a couple vacuum hoses are sealed with wires twisted around them lol. The only mod is a K&N filter. I plan on leaving it completely stock and just increasing its reliability until I am done school (2 more years of mechanical engineering left) since its my daily driver, and after that turning it into a beast since I'll have the time and money. Right now I am on a co-op (internship) in Edmonton, Alberta so I am trying to prepare her for the brutal Alberta winter (it can hit -40 Celcius occasionally). So far I have winter tires and a 250W oil pan heater, since I couldn't find a block heater. Anything else that you guys can think of? I've also installed a kill switch in the ignition circuit and hidden it because the key is stuck in the lock cylinder. Sorry for all the blabbing, picture time! http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/706/d5qa.jpg http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/69/bsgb.jpg http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/542/s2k9.jpg My girlfriend loves it too!http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/513/6bvj.jpg The dollar store pedal covers came off immediately, don't worryhttp://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/46/qpsc.jpg http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/811/g2eq.jpg Engine bay when I got ithttp://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/850/eyoz.jpg Engine bay after cleaning and painting heatshields. Does anyone know the procedure for taking off the over-valve-cover pipe to paint? I am just worried because it looks like there is some liquid gasket goop where it connects to the compressor outlet and I don't want to destroy the seal.http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/18/o7ie.jpg Im pretty sure this isnt stock... looks exactly like star wars typefont lolhttp://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/811/5rhm.jpg
Ernie88TSi
Welcome! Along with the oil pan heater, do you have a battery warming pad? As far as keeping coolant warm, there isn't anything specific out for our cars, you'd have to pick up one of the generic ones that replace a freeze plug. I've also installed a few of those heaters that "T" into the lower radiator hose with pretty good results. As far as the OVCP (Over the Valve Cover Pipe) There shouldn't be any type of RTV sealant. There is an o-ring on the pipe where it goes into the turbo. That appears to be the a factory replacement sticker (since it was obviously repainted). The font used does look similar to a few others, but it's actually a custom font.
scott87star
Nice one! Been to Edmonton, good luck with the winter, keeping the oil, battery and coolant warm is your best defense. Maybe when you're back in Victoria we can get together somewhere. I grew up in MN, have a business just South of Winnipeg in ND so am used to the bone numbing cold. Don't like it though. ZacMan
G'day, I do love a nice flatty :-). Sticker on the rear might be a reproduction, but its a good one as it got the factory early font spot on. Looks like it might have been touched up in a few spots, but very cool :-). -40degC? Sheebus! T-Harps
Thanks guys! A battery warmer would be a pretty good idea. I'll see how well she's cranking as it starts getting colder here and then decide. As for the coolant, I think the Polar Pad will keep the whole block pretty warm. I had it plugged in for 10 seconds and couldn't even touch it. That'd be awesome to meet up sometime scott, I'm planning on meeting with Niko (88-cnqst-tsi) in Vancouver sometime too. I've still never seen another quest haha. Like your flatty too ZacMan! Did your antennae come stock on the roof over there?

Crazy larry
Sticker looks to be a factory stock sticker that was taped over when the car was painted. Nice Flatty
ZacMan
Did your antennae come stock on the roof over there? Yeah, because it's a really early shell. They switched to the electric aerials at the back late 83.

Jack86
Thats a nice flatty you found. You'll have to let me know how she does in the snow with winter tires. I'm in utah and my car will hopefully be done right when the snow starts to stick.
T-Harps
We'Thats a nice flatty you found. You'll have to let me know how she does in the snow with winter tires. I'm in utah and my car will hopefully be done right when the snow starts to stick. We've had snow on the ground for 3 weeks now so I'm starting to get used to the RWD. I bought 150 lbs of sand bags for the trunk to get some traction and its worked really well. Also threw most of my tools in there for weight and in case I break down. This morning was -31 deg C! (-24 deg F). If I don't plug her in overnight then she starts for about 10 seconds then dies.
aknorthstar
Ive been running 205/60/15 studded snow tires with some generic steel rims on my 86. They work pretty good might have to add more weight, got 60 but 150 sounds better.
tom h
how was the drive from the island to ab? that car sat for years at that apartment .every now and then it would move .i work at the base just down the road from there.dfinitly a nice car . theres only a few ive seen on the island
T-Harps
The drive was pretty good! Struggled a bit going up the steep sections of the coquihalla because of all the weight I had in the back, but overall a great highway car. So you have an 83 on the island Tom? I'll be back there come January and I'd like to see your car. There is a guy named Shawn Silva, maybe you've heard of him, near Shawnigan lake who apparently has "several starquests". He is selling parts for them as well but his prices are pretty high
xricer
Hey harps, nice too see another Canadian with Quest! I fell in love with these cars from the ads in motor trend and other mags in 87 or so. We went to Florida every year for march break and test drove one when I was 16, it was a silver Starion wide...It was beautiful! Unfortunately way back then the starquest couldn't be imported into Canada because the bumpers didn't meet our standards! (bull $h!t) So I started searching here for one....finally found one in Windsor and bought it (the mto let a few in in the 80's but that was it, now anything 15 yrs old is good) They are awesome cars and really under appreciated, most people have no clue what they are! One of the coolest cars out there! Sorry for the long winded reply! That's what happens when I get the rum in me!

No, it doesn't talk. I think that was just the technica Conquests that did that. I talk to it sometimes though. No responses usually.
