franco101
So I was going to replace my 5 speed tranny for an 89. How hard would it be to replace in my driveway? I can get it up on jackstands no problem. I know I have to remove driveshaft, but that's it. Any detailed help will be appreciated. Franco
flattiefan
Its doable Im doing a clutch swap in my drive way right now. You just need to make sure you can get the car up high enough. Mine is setting on 2 rail road timbers on each side.to pull the transmission all the way out you will need to unbolt the bell housing of course and I belive the starter is bolted to the trans as well, and then theres the speedometer wire and 2 bolts on each side on the cross member. Thats it other than the drive shaft. Its pretty straight forward
Starfighterpilot
Ya might consider replacing the rear tranny and the front torque tube mounts if they have never been replaced. If they are '87 factory originals then the rubber parts are almost certain to be cracked. For What it's Worth. KEN
franco101
I purchased the rear trans mount, but didn't know about the front torque tube mounts. I will look into getting them if I can. Looking at this weeks future weather, thursday looks like the day for the swap. Thanks Franco
