mitsusqueeshee
i have a manual and know what it calls for was just wonting to know if that is the best procedure DO NOT deck the block more than .008. In fact have them take the least material possible to make it true. The crank shaft main bearings should be ground to (.0008-.0015) according to the FSM ....most machine shops go .002 and more and call that good. I don't know why? Rod bearings should be less than .002. As far as piston to skirt clearance goes...this would depend on weather or not you select forged pistons or cast. Dad
.0015-.002 bearing clearance is perfect- if you look at both clevite and federal mogul manuals the bearing clearances are different than the FSM, and all the cranks I have ever checked always mic on the small side of the spec. I highly question the FSM spec on the bearing clearances. Now this is just my experience. And if you deck the block- be sure the front cover is installed on the block when cutting and only remove smallest amount as needed to clean up the surface. Caliber308
It all depends on how your setting it up. The best advice I can give you is to buy your own replacement parts, after you first consult with a reputable engine machine shop and tell them what you want to do. Good Luck,CALIBER
