couple days ago my g-daughter was printing on one of my printers and it ran out of paper, she add'd paper but now the printer don't reconize the paper is in the tray,,

what or where is the paper in trip swt or how does it know there is or is not any paper , i just waste'd $65 in new ink for the darn thing , and none of the newer printers can use the old ink carts,#15 and #17 :(

i've done all the resets and reinstall driver bit

Printers get dusty from sitting around. I blew mine out with my air compressor. It didn't really seem all that dusty mut it was just enough to cause paper jams and non sensing paper.

btw have to ask the stupid question, did she load the paper correctly? Sometimes on top feed units if the paper isn't pushed down all the way it will look like paper is loaded but the printer can't see it. Since this happened right after she loaded paper that's where I would look for problems.

Looking from the rear, near the top of the feed roller there should be a small hinged widget. This is the paper sensor. It should move freely. If it is sticking, you are going to get false paper jams. These can get pulled loose or partially pulled out of their hinge when a paper jam is removed.

Something I grabbed off the internetz...?

ok i have an update that may help others with the same problem Posted Image

seems it may not be the paper sensor at all, the printers share the out of paper led with the ' imcompatiable ink cartridge indicator "

i have 3 dif HP printers and all are doing the same thing,, just replace'd cartridges in all 3 ,
so it apears that the carts have contacts on them to id them, a missing signal stops the printer from working,, 2 of the carts are being replace'd under warranty , the 3'd i still have to check on that was a working cart untill it ran out of ink, had it refill'd at walgreens ,

Robert was somewhat upset that the venue is ~1 hr from Las Vegas. He wanted to know if it will be exciting like Las Vegas.

However, upon his review of the thread, his worry was reversed. He is now excited for the Vegas National meet, in Mesquite.

i thought about that but then the old empty cart still alows the printer to work ,if it was the printer cart contacts it should not work as well

as luck will have it i now have 2 printers doing the same thing , both on the color carts , HP 812c and a HP 842c
it goes like this 2x oem HP color carts cost $35 each or $70, a new printer costs $79 with both blk and color carts togather costing $21 , time to retire both printers but both work very well when working :(

Most of those lower cost printers do come with starter cartridges, that's why their cost is lower. Starter cartridges produce less than half as many prints as a "full" cartridge. This is very true on HP and Cannon. I'm not sure if Epson has yet adopted this, not two years ago when I used to slang these things daily.

Shelby, are you printing color or just black and white?? How often do you print?? Are you printing photos??

Robert 95% of all my printing is in blk, with an ocasional color pic on photo paper , but and it's a big but :) the daughter and g-daughters do go nuts from time to time with photo printing , also i'm aware what the XL means after the cart number ;)
another thing is our daughter is takeing one of those internet college courses so she needs to have a working blk and color printer , that she does i just got her a new HP 4480 scaner copyer printer .
i have try'd several other brand names but HP with replaceable heads with each cart seems to work the best , atleast you don't trash the printer if a head gets clog'd up like cannon and brothers do
