83starionT
I am having problems with the fuel injectors in my 1983. They are the injectors with the built in wiring and connector. At about 4500 rpms my car falls flat on its face pretty much and bugs up and down from there when i am flooring it. If i slowly rev through the rpm's it does fine. So, from what i have been reading here, i am pretty sure it is the injectors. I can't find them anywhere. Unless anyone has any other suggestions for me. Im new to starions so thx in advance. FlattopMike
Don't be so quick to blame the injectors. They are obviously firing and that's all they are suposed to do. There is not a primary and secondary injector like later models. The fire together so the logic that you read in the VM forum doesn't hold true with our cars. Start with your filters. There is one in the tank. There is one inside the hose at the pump. There is a large one on the drivers fender well. There is one for each injector under the TB cover. 83starionT
It has a new fuel filter under hood, new thermostat, 180 deg., new feul line. I cleaned out the filters in the throttle body. The vacuum advance works correctly checking timing witha timing light. The wires on the injectors are very dry and brittle all the way up to the injector and i tried to cover all the wire breaks but i figured maybe enough voltage couldn't travel through the wire or something like that. Its good to know that they fire at the same time, i just got the factory service manual for the 83 in today so i am gunna read up. I am in need of the one way EGR valve so i can make my car pass emissions. I also need the piece that goes into the head where the secondary filter goes into. When i got this car it was trashed pertty much a parts car. I have since within two weeks made it run. It sort of idles irratically when it warms up, when i first start it it runs smooth. As soon as it starts to warm up it changes.

83starionT
I am also thinking like you said change those filters to new inlines or something as well. The fuel was gelled up when i took the ECI cover off and apart. I was thinking of going with a walbro 255 and new sock for the fuel pump but i wanted it to run better first lol. Turbo spools nice and lots of power to around 4-4500 rpms. I thought it might be a boost leak but the gauge shows full boost even until it falls on its face, so i am thinking no. GAflatty
my car kind of did the same thing and it ended up being durty fuel filters. I had replaced the one in the einge bay and had the tank boiled out and cleaned but it still fell on its face come to find out the tiny cone shaped filter at the fuelpump was blocked BIG time. i took it out and cleaned clean and then the car ran like a champ. be sure to check and clean that filter you might be suprised! just my $0.

It can be accessed through an inspection plate in the back under the carpet on the drivers side.

83stariontravis
Most 83s ive seen or heard about are not LSD. If you have the 15" sport wheels and ABS you probably have LSD. There may be a sticker in the door jam letting you know its there. Find an 86 starion/conquest rear end and torque tube for a direct swap. So how does this car drift?????? that was my main goal with my purchase... from my personal drifting experience on my 83, you wont do that great with the 1 legger diff, its just hard to keep angle with a non lsd. now i have a diff from a 87 widebody that i had sittin. i can keep angle for days now. then again it would help to stiffen up the suspension to get rid of the insane body roll that our cars have from stock. well like project toy said, welcome to our wierd world of the 83, i might have 1 good injector laying around if your interested. i decided to do the 4g63 swap now so i MIGHT have some really clean 83 parts for sale soon (all of you thats seen my car know what im talking about) but im still thinking about it since the setup is so rare. anyway good luck
