I would like to buy new wheels for my flatty and am having trouble finding the ones I like and the ones that will fit! What are the offsets for an 86 flatty and is there a wheel like the M-sport that fits on the wide bodies for the flatties, as that would be my preference

Thanks for your help!

there are a few posts in this forum on rims. Stock is 4lug on 114.3. stock rims are 18mm offset but chances of finding that are really slim. Are you looking to go larger/wider?

a member named kitt managed to get 18x10 rims on the back with +12mm offset i think and 18x8 front with 12mm offset.

I would like to put on the skiiny tire so I think it would be wider? Please correct me if I am wrong...I have no clue when it comes to wheels N tires

Thanks

I really like the m-sport rim and a tire that is wider rather than being thick like the ones on the car now, sorry I can only describe the tire, but Fanta knows the rims I like...

Would you have any suggestions shift1313

Sorry ..truly dunce when it comes to offsets, tires N wheels

if your talking about the adr msport then the standard offset is like 35mm to 40mm.

my stock flatty rims are 15" and 6.5" wide. I think yours are 14" and 6" wide. both with the same 18mm offset.

when you talk about rims there are usually two terms thrown around. Backspacing and offset. Increasing negative offset will move the rim inwards towards the suspension. Decreasing negative offset will move the wheel toward the fender.

here is a good picture

http://www.speedace.info/tyre_images/wheel_rim_offset_diagram.gif

offset is measured from the centerline of the rim to the back mounting surface of the rim(where it bolts to the car). So your starion rim is 18mm off center. One thing to think about is if you go with a wider rim the offset is going to be different because you need to keep the inside edge of the rim away from the suspension.

for instance the 18x8" rim that had a 12mm offset. the centerline of the rim is 4", then add +12mm offset(roughly 1/2"), from the back face where the rim mounts you have 4.5" inward towards your suspension. The stock 6.5" rim on my car have an 18mm offset and that puts 3.95" on teh inside towards the suspension.

finding rims that fit these cars isnt the easiest thing in the world.

Thanks Matt, that pic helps alot! So if I want to go with the adr msport I would need 35mm and 40mm offsets? I am assuming the 35mm is the front and the 40mm is the rear.

Hhmmmm, now for tires...I like the ones that are skinny but somewhat wide...if that makes any sense at all!

i just searched for the pic in google and thats what came up.

also if they refer to backspacing that is the distance to the mounting surface from the back of the rim.

the 35mm and 40mm is what those rims are offered in. I dont know if they will fit or not though.

40mm offset on a 7" wide 17" rim. 40mm is roughly 1.6" and the center of a 7" rim is 3.5" so you have 5.2 inches from the mounting surface of the rim going toward your suspension. i dont know if that will fit or now. I would guess no but you never know. what happens and what you will see is most people say they run wheel spacers. if you do that you need longer lugs on your hubs. like i said the stock offset of these cars doesnt make rim shopping easy.

Thing is, the ADR MSports come pretty wide, and with their offset's, you'll hav them sticking out past your fender, so you'll look like those mexican cars.

Also, the smallest diameter is a 17" and its a 40mm offset. You'd probably would want to go with some lowering springs to make it look correctly.

Well heck no, I don't want my wheels sticking out past my fender wells..so the 18's would do that? So I need to look for 17's

OK I am getting a big headache now, just when I thought I understood this stuff

18s would make your car ride high. So would 17s ( they might look decet on the flatty, but you MAY have to lower it to make it look correctly and not like a monster truck )

Offset and rim width would determine how far out the rim sticks out. I think your maximum would be 7" in width ( I could be wrong )

Ok Fanta...what do you mean lowering springs? for the fronts or rears, please don't say both  Yes I agree it needs to have the proper stance without losing the handling capability
