mstieg
My dad has a bunch of engine parts for AMC 390s, some bored up to 401s. He's been racing his 69 AMX with a clutch LENCO tranny for years...built the car the winter I was born. It runs in the 9s and is a fully tubed out door slammer. See pics in my sig. PICS link. Anyhow, he seemed to think a 390 would fit in a Starion. Sure it'd be fairly tight, and not have EFI, but his drag car has about 500hp. That'd be a plenty for a little SQ to scoot on the 1/4 mile. Not a smart street car setup at all with his race engines of course. Food for thought. Any comments?
Star_V8_Quest
should fit,but custom headers would need to be made and probably notching the frame for them to fit.I would like to see a 390 in one.
MainstreaM
that 390 would look better in my cj-5. Trade ya a g54b for it.
mstieg
Right. Custom headers would be a given. My dad makes his own. The hood would probably need a scoop to clear the two 4 barrel carbs. Definately if his custom tunnel ram intake was on there. 8) It would probably require a different steering option as well as master brake cylinder. Tranny options would be the major issue. No way would the LENCO fit without some notable chop-cut-rebuilding.
Star_V8_Quest
I had a 71 amx with a 401 in it that matted to the chhrysler 727 tranny.Bolt that tranny in  steering would be ok I think and the brake booster should also clear.
