Trigger wheel

Recommended Posts

Look in the megamanual.. 9 teeth past the gap i believe..

The VR sensor and 36-1 crank trigger wheel must be set in the correct relationship to each other. With the engine at TDC for cylinder #1, this relationship is:

  • EDIS-4: missing tooth is exactly nine teeth (90°) ahead of the VR sensor,
  • EDIS-6: missing tooth is exactly six teeth (60°) ahead of the VR sensor,
  • EDIS-8: missing tooth is exactly five teeth (50°) ahead of the VR sensor.

when i done mine, i put it center on the tooth, the 9th tooth. and yes, the gap is ahead closer to the drivers side of the car.. thats the direction the engine rotates. I had mookeehs wheel and mount though so mine lined up perfect..

He's out of stock, so I'm making my own

as long as the sensor lines up with the proper tooth the wheel can be mounted anyway.

the problem comes in when mounting the sensor. you need room. I mounted mine here...

Note the blacked out tooth. that is the 9th tooth that you need to align to the sensor.

the 2 bolts holding the sensor mount on are bolts from a 2 stroke motor cycle crank case.

proper thread pattern and length.

After finally getting the trigger wheel mounted, at some point I managed to not get it exact

With my cps adjusted over, at 0, im at half a tooth, to be center on 9t I'm at 2 degree atdc, I can't remember, can megasquirt compensate with adjustments?

If you are just eyeballing it by counting the teeth, you should be able to get close enough to get the car started using a zero value in the trigger angle adjustment. Then you can dial it in perfectly with a timing light. That's what I did. Just make sure you have trigger wheel and VR sensor orientation correct. For my first EDIS attempt, I just JB welded the ford escort trigger wheel to my stock crank pully and fabbed up a vr sensor mount. It was very crude, but worked for a short time period for testing everything before I upgraded to the MK1 pieces. Note that you should first verify you are seeing cranking RPM in megasquirt before you investigate any trigger wheel angle adjustments. You may have to reverse the wires for the VR sensor to get an RPM signal.

  • 2 weeks later...
got the car up and running, fuel tune almost complete, got a generic timing map off here. still need to get the tps accel enrich figured out though, got a stumble at low touch (no issues with tps itself)
