RonnieJ
Im on the hunt for nice struts as my fronts are blown and lowerider status bouncy now. My car is lowered on ST springs. I like the height and dont care to go lower. Is there any struts that will do the job for a lowered car? Ive searched a ton. I keep coming with MR2 inserts or Mookeehs. Mookeehs say they are 30% stiffer than stock. I have tried to find reviews but cant find any on the Mookeeh. Any suggestions? Thanks guys Car in need
mr-starion
I got a set of mookehs with 150 miles on em, i went with a new system a while back they look brand new, ride was pretty good
RonnieJ
Was it stiff, soft ect? What did you like and not like about them? Need some details if you can
mr-starion
I come from a city full of potholes, ride quality was stiff on the highway, on the potholes the bad ones id bottom out but i bottom out with my tokikos aswell, they probably are stiffer than stock but not by that much, but i had no complaints about them
mr-starion
I was about to go d2 but it would of sucked for me and i would of blew them quickly, i went with tokikos for now
RonnieJ
Thank you. Seems like I will go KYB or Tokikos instead

patra_is_here
I'm running Koni yellows in the front and AGX red's in the rear (MR2 strut mods). I my springs rates are pretty high and these struts work fine (and are adjustable), so they'll probably be just fine with ST spring rates.
RonnieJ
Do you have the part # for the MR2 Konis?
RonnieJ
I think im just going to go with MR2 AGXs. I can get them from a vendor of ours
patra_is_here
the agx's seem to be fine with most people (and they are adjustable). The koni's are just a bit better in terms of quality and valving, but for a street car you'll be happy with the AGX. once you have time and drive you can shorten your struts and convert to coil overs and still retain your AGX's. so in that sense they'll be able to stay in use as your car progresses. Komeuppance
MR2 mod FTMFW. I have illuminas, set to max stiff at 5... I need slightly stiffer spring rates myself, I'm running some well-used-by-now 8k front/6k rears and they're a bit softer than I'd like. -Robert
patra_is_here
you think 8k is too soft? jeeze. what kinda issues make you feel they are too soft?
jszucs
you think 8k is too soft? jeeze. what kinda issues make you feel they are too soft? Have you not seen how low he is? He can't have springs that allow for more then 2" travel at most. Also from reading above.... your shocks are not really going to make your ride soft / hard that is way more a function of your springs, the shock is there to contorl rebound from the springs, not to ride on. RonnieJ
The springs can only do so much when the struts dont control any rebound at all. I can push front font end down with one hand now. Was not that bad when I bought the car
patra_is_here
that's an issue with springs then. you need a higher rate springs and suitable struts. looks like it's time to upgrade all around. shocks give almost no resistance under compression (relative to the weight of the car and spring rates)
RonnieJ
Well I guess its time for better springs as well
TexasQuest
I have ST springs lowered on KYB struts and the car rides great. Pretty sure new struts will do you fine.
patra_is_here
he just indicated that his springs have lost their spring rate.
patra_is_here
ronnie, if you have access to metal fab stuff, it's pretty damn cheap to build a good set of coil-overs using high end products. especially if you source some used items from members (maybe people here selling AGX inserts? ). Idk, I got my koni yellows, agx, sleeves, springs, camber plates for like $700 IIRC. otherwise if you don't want to fabricate you probably gotta buy some D2 idk if anyone else makes a set up for these cars
RonnieJ
Im looking into making my own or KSports since they are local to us. AC, new IC, and suspension are on my curent to do list
jabbott126
Just go the D2 route Ronnie. You can choose your ride height and the stiffness of your dampers and its pretty simple for making them work. Alot less hassle then MR2 stuff.
patra_is_here
well, building them isn't really a hassle if you've got the equipment. takes maybe an hour per corner to fab em. I can give you pointers if you like, so you can learn from my mistakes.
