alp247
So i have a 89 SHP Auto. Now I have as 88 manual SHP but i'm new to this Auto stuff. I'm going to need some help doing a check list for the tranny. Here is my symptoms i'm having.slipping between 2-3 gear, about 25-30 mph. all the other gears work fine.. i don't think i have OD working. When i press it on the highway i don't notice a difference.Info on the car.I just bought this car for my finacee since she only wants to drive a Auto. I wish it was manual but it is what it is so.The tranny has about 89k on it but sad to see it shifting like it is.Any info would help. if you have diagrams or pictures...those would be great as well. I know this section for Auto gurus is small so thank you for anyone that responds.
kidjc
You should feel/"notice" a difference between OD & D... also, easy: look @ the tach, RPM change.
Alan
I would do band adjustment of the OD and 2nd brake band. Change filter, will have to drain and drop the pan for the 2nd brake band anyway. That isn't many miles on an auto, but if fluid was low, got hot, sat a long time etc.
alp247
Thanks Alan. I don't want to but I don't have a garage anymore but i guess i'll have to bring my car to aamco to have them check it out and get a quote. Hopefully i don't need to rebuild it and adjustments, tranny oil & filter change is all i need. kidjc, I was thinking the same thing of what you said about the rpm changing if you turn the OD on or off. I don't see a difference in the rpm so I would have to assume the OD is not working. Edited March 26, 2012 by alp247

I think 60 is 2k rpms, 70 is 2300 rpms, and 45 is around 1500, if I remember correctly, can tell you better tomorrow. any higher (about 3-500 rpm or more) than your probably running without. alp247
The Rabbit1,If i remember right at 70 i'm at 3000rpm. I'll have to check when i drive it today and check back in with you. I'll try to get it the rpm for you at 45 since at lunch i'm on the expressway which allows me to go 50mph. thanks for the info!
Ironside
At 45 & 50mph hit the OD cancel button the rpm should change going in and out of OD .I just bought a new diaphragm for the OD, I will let you know of that works.
