yzrider
I picked up a 1jz with a r154 today from jdmenginedepot I live close enough to go there and pick it up. Got it for 1900 compression tested it and picked out the one I wanted out of at least 10 1jz's. Pretty happy with the price and really happy with the shape its in. Super clean. Only complaint is this thing is brittle. Connectors are breaking if I sneeze near the engine. There's a 22 pin connector going to the ecu that's shattered and I broke the tps housing like the aluminum piece the sensor sits in. Ordering a clutch, cams, and flywheel bolts for it soon. Anyone have a line on the tps housing, 22 pin connector or even an oil pan? I sat the engine on a tire in the back of my truck and used 4 tie downs and still somehow managed to crack the oil pan on the drive home. That's my luck though. But I'm very excited to get started. Been a busy week. Motor came out today and tomorrow going to start cleaning and prepping the engine bay.
yzrider
Oh yeah and I have about a million questions. I'll do a couple for now. I know the rad has to be moved in front of the rad support. What rad and fans is everyone going with? I'm hoping to be able to ditch the stock twins before it gets in the car. My bank account is going to decide that for me though. I'm hoping to have it finish by may for the ocean city Maryland cruise weekend. Money will be the biggest delay I expect anyway. vettekiller593
You can use the mk3 aluminum radiator from eBay. I rec using the flex-a-lite fans that are made for the mk3 radiator if you want to keep it cool in oc. Been there and done that. This is what you need. http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/toyota-supra.htmlYou will have to cut out the bottom of the core support out to fit them and box it back in though. BOHO
http://www.phoenixtuning.com/zenstore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=867&zenid=q7r9bim8koupfmlreq4369i6j1 Try these guys for your connectors...Even if you don't see it listed. E-mail them and ask. As Vette said..MK3 supra radiator I just went went with an ebay 12" fan and a 10" fan. 2 12's won't fit without cutting Mine doesn't get over 195 in stop and go traffic...only gets to 200 if I'm doing hard runs. I'm not sure how you cracked the oil pan but driftmotion sells them... driftmotion.com has alot of stuff.
yzrider
So with a 12 and 10 I can get away with not cutting the support? Thanks for the link I emailed a company last night that custom makes plug and play harnesses just fishing to see if they would sell just the connector I need. With tha fans which style am I after, puller right. Mount the rad in front of the support and the fans behind it correct? vettekiller593
You can get any fan you want but I had 2 10" and in oc my gauge was reading 230 in traffic i had to pull over. with the fans i told you about it might get 200 to 205 in traffic without moving. Thats totally up to you. I did these then we did them on serpent's car and best fan option out there.
yzrider
Ok I'll make them work. Where's the cheapest place you found them? Driftmotion there like 420.

yzrider
I wonder if 1jz's simply because of there smaller displacement run cooler. Took the front end off the car. Trying to sell a trans am so having to split my time between two projects but hopefully the Ta will be gone tomorrow then can focus solely on the starion. Thanks alot for the help so far. I'm really excited about potentially having a running starion again. And the show in oc is definitly a good test for a cars cooling system down by the pier so much traffic haha. Its such a good time there though.

yzrider
Sounds great thanks alot. I will be there with or without the car but really trying to have the car there. I need to see one of these swapped cars in person. So many questions could be solved so much easier. I still have a good bit of cleaning up and gathering of stuff before i need to really worry about anything too serious yet.
yzrider
Ive gutted the engine bay, removed abs, sway bar and a bunch of other useless garbage. Fixed the oil pan and sealed her back up. Found the shifter housing from a mk3 supra that I need getting that on saturday. Buying a clutch next weekend then I can bolt the trans back up to the engine and then its time to get this thing into the car. Since its going to be about two weeks until I have the clutch i think im going to polish the wheels on my car. I cleaned the crap out of my engine bay and its pretty presentable. Debating on painting it. It could use it for sure. Also debating on yanking the old gas tank out and dropping a fuel cell in just to eliminate one more old dirty part that can infect my hopefully healthy 1jz haha. randy
What's wrong with using the stock gas tank?
vettekiller593
I hear if you put a fuel cell in it will be a race car. Just saying. I would keep the stock tank if it's not rusted out. Use a Bosch 044 pump and your good to go.
yzrider
Theres nothing wrong with using the stock tank, but this car fell off a jack years ago and crushed the bottom of the tank in pretty good. It doesnt leak but still bothers me. Also im sure the inside is a rust free as the front bumper support, the frame rails, the quarters, and basically the whole bottom of the body when I got the car. It was a rust bucket, cut out and replaced all the rot. Basically if they sold new stock gas tanks Id buy one in a heartbeat but a cell is a cheap piece of mind knowing wont have cruddy rusty stuff cause fuel delivery issues later on. yzrider
Hey guys just a small update. Got the engine and trans fitted. I got two words for trans tunnel modding. Bottle jack! It made it so easy!
D-VO
Tell me more about this bottle jack mod...
Technology
To make the tunnel wider, he used a jack from a hydraulic press to force it apart.
kyle's89quest
i would have just used a log splitter.
yzrider
Log splitter would have worked too! Just a small bottle jack that I had layig around. Saved alot of hammer work.
akauf
did you get the trans sorted out?
yzrider
Nope just using the extended housing. Its about 3 inches further back than stock. Im not worried about it though its not bad at all. The shifter "leans" forward too naturally so that helps make up some of the gap. Had to trim away some of the tunnel for the shifter. Going to have to play with the center console a bit but nothing too serious. Waiting on my radiator to come in and then time to finish up the front of the car. vettekiller593
Just get the supra mk3 shifter
BOHO
He needs the entire housing and rod not just the shifter.
yzrider
I tried swapping the whole tail shaft that was a fail. I can't find the housing and all separate from a complete trans. Im not worried about it. I already cut the opening a bit more and it it comes out in a reasonable spot. Ill post pics once I finish that up.
