Got the pistons in as well as some other parts from gm.  My engine builder will have everything to started machining now.  I have to decide on what EXACTINGLY I want now, with lq9/4 heads I can be a 9.5-1 comp good for street boost, stock heads will be 10-1, 243 heads which will put me at about 10.5 and 5.3l heads which will put me at 11-1.

NA will be good for all around fun and Turbo/SC will be great for some smokey drifts and highway pulls.

SC is nice because of that flat powerband.  But boost is just plain fun when it comes on.. tough choice.
Hardpipes, MAFT, GM MAS, 3" DP, 2.5" exhaust, 950/1050 Trilogy injectors, K&N filter, Machined and balance flywheel 23 lbs, short shift, 88/89 tranny, HD ACT clutch, DSM EVO3 S16g ported (21 psi), polished and clipped, NJV head (ported), larger SS Valves, Schneider springs, Ajusa HG, Adjustable FPR, MBC, BOV, MSD coil, Walbro 255, ABS, EGR and balance shaft elim, 88/89 ECU, UEGO 02, new or rebuilt everything.

I will say, If I had the option to economically run 10:1 compression, I would, and boost it.
I've tuned a lot of cars with 10 or even 12:1 compression and boost, and it is a world of difference over 9:1 or less.
Your project sounds cool, I like it. Keep going!

Well last night I got some things done.  I decided to install the stock cam because I was unsure on what cam to use <_<  too many to choose from  The timing chain, oil pump, timing cover, windage tray, and pickup tube are on.  Today I will be able to install the rear main seal and cover as well as the oil pan, valley pan and knock sensor.  The heads will have to wait until I get my head studs/chromoly pushrods /underdrive pulley from summit. :) :) :) :) :)

Be careful with the summit brand pulley.  There have been many reports about them splitting apart on Corvette Forum.

Im just buying those parts from summit, not getting the summit brand stuff.  I like the ATI pulley but will probably settle for the slp/powerband pulley.

Thanks, the mods done so far won't yield much of a power gain.  I am at a bit of a stand still right now and have decided to get a different set of heads.  Will update when I pick the new ones up.

Ahh  the LS, possibilities are endless. You could drop it in in  stock trim and have the funnest Starion ever! Good luck.

This weekend they ran the Extreme 4x4 LS episode, breaks down all of the LS and cheaper truck variants, with pricing, etc. Must see episode for anybody thinking about  a V8 swap.. Sorry but the video won't embed here correctly.

I picked up a set of 243 heads with what I believe are PAC springs, and a TFS 228/230 .588/.588 cam.   With an ported ls6 intake I should be almost 400hp at the wheels.

Waiting on arp head bolts and valley pan gasket and the long block will be done.
