I've got a buddy that taps his wireless for his laptop from a neighbor's signal. The family has a desktop in their basement that will probably not get the signal, so is there a way to install some sort of booster, or another wireless router to recieve the signal and resend it? Should I just have him buy a wireless card with an external antenna on a cable?

he could try an upstairs wireless hub , but every connection to the neighbors system will slow him down and will also show up on his pc if he looks for it
a good hub will pick up the signal and rebroadcast it to the other pc's on it's network

You mean giving the desktop the ability to pick up a wireless signal? I use a Netgear Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter and it picks up my Htc's wi-fi signal. All you do is put in installation disc, follow instructions and plug in adapter to usb then search for the signal.
