This is my first Quest i really like this car alot and love the look and handling. I picked my car up for $2700 bucks at a Ford dealership in virginia. The car runs ok and has some after market things suck as good springs and shocks/struts and front a rear sway bars. It also has a 3inch BORLA stainless cat back exhaust system. The car also has a GREDDY Blow off valve. GREDDY turbo timer and a GREDDY Boost controller that is actually adjustable i can increase or decrease the boost and it works. Its weird cause i have it turned down on 0 added boost so its running around 7 pounds, I turned up the boost on the controller to 1.5 added boost and it went all the way to 14 on the STOCK boost gauge. NOW i do not run the car on added boost because it is missing and not very responsive if i ease into the throttle it is fine. BUT i also have taken it to around 90mph and full throttle it goes up but then kinda makes a put put back fire and will keep rising. I am NOT beating on the car im just trying to figure out the problem. Now i have NEW Plugs,Plug wires,Cap,Rotor,Throttle body Gaskets,ALL fluids,Rad Hoses. NONE of this has been changed yet i am going to hope and preay that all these new parts will get rid of the miss and sputter. ALSO i have noticed some things you guys do with the newer 89 ECU's they are better or what idk just asking. if you guys cauld give me some help with that stuff id apreciate it.

THESE ARE THINGS I NEED AND ARE LOOKING FOR.

1. Front air damn

2. Drivers seat belt retractor. That works

3. Trim peices that go on the hatch. The little 2 that are in the corners on the top of the hatch that slide over the glass. Both right and left.

4. Looking for a Red steering wheel that isnt all faded and beat up.

5. Right side front cowl grill. (the grill peices around the wind sheild wipers.)

6. 3inch Down pipe perferably with o2 censor bung.

7. Front mount inter cooler kick with Hard pipes couplers and all basically a bolt in kit.

ALSO these are just things im lookin for and not sure if any one makes the Intercooler kit or the down pipe.

Well thanks guys like i said just lookin for guys to work on the starQuests with or cruize with so just let me know i would like to meet some people. And here are pics.

Welcome to the club. And about the boost gauge you can't trust in our stock one it guesstimates boost levels. I would recommend upgrading it somewhere down the line. Anyway keep enjoying the car. ! (:

And +1 for ironsides suggestion the FAQ is a good start.

Welcome to the club...Change out those injector clips and fuel filters, that will probably solve alot of the bucking.

I had seen that car on ebay the last three weeks.Looks clean.

  • 3 weeks later...

Welcome to the addiction, went to go see that car in Fairfax Ford dealer in va. It was clean but the missing air dam was and the asking price then was not my thing. But since you got it in such a lower price congrats, just and advice look at the forums about the maintenance before you realy start playing with the boost level and then blowing it up.

But what realy caught my eye when I first looked at it was the rims, good find and congrats.

Welcome to the site. Nice car. Not sure if you read other people's posts clearly enough. You seriously aught to spend some time in the FAQ section. There are a lot of things you should 'go over' with the car to make sure it is running 100%. These cars are very finicky and that's putting it nicely. Before you go modding it, it is very important to make sure that it is running correctly to begin with. If not...your asking for big troubles.....like a new engine if your not careful. Remember the wiring/fuel/ignition systems in these cars are very primitive; it's Mitsubishi's first crack at electronic fuel injection, so you must realize it's 'old school' technology. Not to mention all that stuff is 24 years old. Things will begin to fail. Don't say Nah, it's fine. I guarantee you'll find something wrong if you look, which needs to be fixed to make the whole system work right. Here's some food for thought, on that tip. Can you believe an Idle Speed Controller can cause the car to accelerate oddly...if it is out of whack? This is just an example of how everything works together with the ECI-Turbo system. I don't want to scare you...but take the hint other have been telling. Do a THOROUGH skim through the car, check everything, and be at peace when your done, KNOWING everything is right. Any questions, PM me.

This isn't my first old car. But yes I realize it is all old and the technology is old. But thanks for another reminder I do sometimes get caught up in the upgrades and not the over all performance and reliability. But I feel I'm on track. Thanks again man. I will pm you if any thing comes up.

Welcome to the site. Looks like you got a pretty good car there to start with.

Just throwing it out there, might want to check your vaccuum advance as well, could be the source of the bucking.

And, these cars are very finnicky, but, once you get them running good, they're great cars. I bought mine not running, got it going, then daily drove it for 2 years without issue beyond general maintainance.

And, get an aftermarket boost gauge before messing with the boost at all. The stock ones suck...lol All they do is take readings from the MAS and o2 and "guess" what the boost is. Very innaccurate. When it went to 14, the means you could have been running anywhere from 10 to about 20psi, so...careful with that.

But, good luck and read up on everything, then annoy all your friends by constantly talking about your new starquest love :P

this sounds nasty...but...its really the only way I know of.

You have the vac line coming off of the vac advance, somewhere downstream of the vac advance (either a T or where it hooks to the intake), remove the line from that end, and suck on it as hard as you can, then, before the suction can escape, put your tonque over the hole in the vaccuum line.

If the suction to your tonque goes away, then the vac advance is bad. If it keeps good suction, its fine.

If its anything like my car, though...the vac advance was hooked up to the wrong port on the intake, and moving that to the correct one made a huge difference.

Hey guys i am having a hard time finding any pictures of any starquests with a similar color to mine. If any of you guys can find a picture for me that shows the stock wheels or ANY wheels with a plack center and a chrome lip or ANY colors of rims besides stock finish i would greatly apreciate it. i am trying to figure out what color or colors to make my rims. They are the ones on the car in the pictures if you guys have any ideas let me know. or if you could photoship colors that would be cool to thanks guys.
