importwarrior
I have been sitting on this for about 6 months or so.i got the dizzy idea from ChrisVipers post. here are a few pics. 1996 Mighty max dizzy http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Dizzy-Spacer.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Spacer.jpg in this picture you can see the difference between the mighty max and the stock starquest hole.this is the hole the post goes through to tighten it in place. the quest i farther out from center. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Spacer-7.jpg the spacer i made can allow me to basically put the dizzy in any 360 degree position i want. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Spacer-3.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Cam-Crank-Dizzy.jpg Edited February 9, 2011 by importwarrior

importwarrior
Thanks, but i cannot take credit for this it goes to ChrisViper. here are a two more pics. i think this is 1000 timeseasier than an EDIS setup.all though i have yet to install it. spacer dfference. not a great pic but yo get the idea. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Dizzy-Spacer.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/Mega%20Squirt/Dizzy-Spacer-1.jpg Edited November 20, 2010 by importwarrior
Technology
You can't just drop it in like that though, you need the ecu to advance and retard timing. Or was that assumed and I'm dumb? (Don't answer the last part.) So if this works, you are awesome, btw. Make it so.
scott87star
Yeah, I messed with welding together a DSM CAS and dizzy base and even though it seemed to work it was a pain, here is my 4-1 dizzy installed: http://picturehosting.com/images/oblique9881/e89001.jpg The CAS lid fits pretty well once you cut the dizzy cap tabs off, a couple of gaps are left that can be RTV'ed to make a pretty nice seal. Mine is going to run these: http://picturehosting.com/images/oblique9881/e89002.jpg I should know next week how well it works. I'm considering getting that bracket water jet cut and selling them if there is interest. Those are 2-wire COPS from a 4G63 I believe. I like your spacer, I made a multi-plate one and don't like it a bit so I got some 0.25" aluminum to do something like yours. Scott
importwarrior
thanks scott i would be interested in how you setup the megasquirt to run the COP's. I thought the dsm spins in the wrong directionthats why we could not use it in our stock dizzy location. my spacer allows me to clamp down the dizzy in any position i want to help me get the timing between the megsquirt and engine to the proper timing. importwarrior
This whole setup is based on a MegaSquirt install.the map sensor along with the spark map can alow you to program your own timing map in a 12 X 12 map of 144 cells. the MegaSquirt i have has a built in 4 bar map sensor with a barometer corection sensor. you set timing and retard in the 12 x 12 spark map. sample spark map, not mine. http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/4500/timingmap122709.jpg
pure_insanity
how do you go about deciphering the wiring in the mm dizzy cas ? which wire goes where?
pure_insanity
and once you had the mm dizzy in place, you could just simply use the dist cap and be done right? kind of a simple mpi setup.
importwarrior
yes that is correct. you can use the cap and rotor.the wires are easy, one 12 volt, one ground, onecam sensor one crank sensor. Just so you all know there are different color wiresfor different dizzy's. mine has a red and blackwhite and yellow between the dizzy and connectorBUT after the connector they change to different colorsyellow, black, green, Black~white. so red is + black is- white or yellow is cam or cranki just need the megasquirt to tell the differencebetween the yellow or white wires. basically it will fire one way and it will not the other. if it doesn'treverse those 2 wires. thats it. psu_Crash
I have a dizzy and BIP373 on the way. I'll make up the bracket as soon as I have the dizzy in hand. May even have try to install this coming weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
importwarrior
very cool, i have a diyautotune megasquirt. i allready had 1 driver installed.when i converted it to 2 drivers i had to remove the vb-921 driver and replaceit with the BP-373 then add one more BP-373. Very easy to do.I just got the new head on my car and need to sort out a oil leak. once thatsdone then i will be trying to get this megasquirt installed as well. scott87star
Here's my control module for the COPs, I've mounted them in the megasquirt case before but that gets messy and I like the idea of the actual coil power wires being as short as possible (less susceptible to noise). The 5 volt logic lines are in that wire exiting out the left side, they go through the firewall and to the ECU case. The 18 gauge white wires run to the coil negatives of course, and a common ground out. I've used that board several times now, it fits in a spare slot in the megasquirt case if you want it there, its from Glen's Garage. You can also get one from JBPerf but I like Glen's better. http://picturehosting.com/images/oblique9881/4channelcoilcontrol.jpg Scott
