Fuel injector issues

Hi Im looking for some ideas on what to do about my injectors in my 1983.not only do they drip , the wires are in such bad shape they broke off right at the tb . I love this car and I found the fuelinjectionpro website and they seemed to have some options for replacing part of the tb. Are they good to deal with? Is there a less expensive alternative or an upgrade for around the same price? If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them,I cant drive this car without fixing this problem .thanks for your help

You have three options:

1) make a post in wanted and find another 83 throttle body set up. They are somewhat hard to comebuy and won't exactly be free.

2) Swap to a later 84-86 setup including a full intake, throttle body, and ovcp. Working through the wiring differences will be the hardest part.

3) Convert the car to non-factory fuel system of some sort. Much more work and $ but ultimately more benifits.

  • 4 weeks later...

I saw a guy parting out an '83 a couple of weeks ago in the For Sale forum. Check there for replacement injectors. You can put up an ad in the Items Wanted forum too.

The problem with '83 injectors is they burn out if the ballast resistor goes bad. Some people go through a few pairs of injectors before they figure that out. It is also a problem when buying used '83 injectors. You never know how good they are.

They are not available new of course.

An no, FIP is no longer in business last I knew.

I was about to spend some $$$ with FIP....damn happy I didn't now.I would be out a lot of money and a fuel injection mixer top rail.....sucks they went out like that...they had nice stuff for our cars.anyway.....As for the 83....since converting to anything else is gonna be a wiring challenge and some $$$...make the leap to MPI.after months of chasing various probs w my stock 88 system wishin I had gone that route as originally planned.
