bflann
Hello again fellow starquesters, I have a major project on my hands, for me at least, because reading the forum plenty of u guys have done far more involved projects than what I am doing, but alas this project for me will be a bucket list scratch off. I say that because like many of u I am fond of this car and it has stood the test of time. I have begun this project with a limited knowledge of the existence of this type of help group forum, so a lot of resources have been put in motion. I have stated in the newbie section that I am having the motor rebuilt be TEP. A race prepped engine capable of 400hp plus. I am also having TEP convert my tbi intake into a mpi intake. I felt like the info on the drawback of the tbi was too much of a risk to keep with the type of performance i want to get from car. Which brings me to my 1st question. Is having a methanol injection system overkill... The engine/fuel management will be done with haltech sprint 500. Which brings me to question#2, is the haltech easy to tune. .. I'm going to get a t3/t4 hybrid turbo to replace stock turbo, which brings me to question#3, what is the best type of boost control to get, manual or electronic. ... Well I have laid out basic plan for under the hood mods. I still have the suspension mods that I am gathering. Already have st anti-sway bars, new rotors, calipers. And in the process of collecting the various bushings that need replacing. I will have to figure out how to get the pics uploaded so I can keep u all updated on the progress. The 2 things I need r, a accelerator arm and assembly, and the ever elusive 83 scooped hood. BTW my conquest is white with the maroon interior, so looking for the steering wheel with radio controls and the turn signal handle. OK that's it for now, will be posting again soon.....
importwarrior
personally i would not let TEP do anything to my car mechanically. or spend the money on MPI with them. research more before using TEP and ask questions before using TEP. just a heads up... they worked on a car in the past and the fuel line popped off after they delivered it to the ownerand the car burnt to the ground. becareful
bflann
well, as far as using TEP I am in a bind, because they have started on the motor and the mpi conversion so basically I will have to keep my fingers crossed. I have ordered the mookee rear struts and the tokico front struts, its kinda funny that on set is red and the other blue, I may have to do some spray painting. I want to order some coilovers for them and was wondering if cosmo coilovers r any good or do I need to go with ground control, the difference in price is about $150 but if the cosmo's are not worth buying I will spend the extra. Also have ordered the cx racing aluminum radiator with the fans, does anyone know if the temp sensors will have to be tapped in, could not tell from pics. well that's it for today, just gathering a lot of stuff so I can put it altogether at one time. Oh almost forgot, can someone explain to me the use of the camber plates and if I should bye them for the coilover mod. Thanks in advance for your help and any ideas as to how I can make this project a success would be really appreciated
992gnt
Generally speaking, meth injection can be a great addition, depending on the specifics of your build. If it's a high comp, bleeding edge set up, meth can give you some headroom for knock suppression allowing you to turn up the boost. If the build is conservative, then it's probably not necessary. As for tuning a Haltech, that would be a question for your tuner. If you are tuning it, I'm sure there are some Haltech-centric forums out there that you can peruse to see what you're getting into. If you have not tuned a car before, I would strongly suggest finding a competent tuner (with a dyno) unless you want to rebuild the engine a few times. I am partial to Hallman manual boost controllers. They have a basic that is adjustable under the hood, and one that has an in-cabin knob for on the fly adjustment. I've never been let down by one ever, including on my TTA roadrace prepped Evo. Edited November 13, 2014 by 992gnt

bflann
I've seen 3 conquests @ this shop, so I feel good that they will do me right with engine & mpi install, and actually the owner had a shetland quest that he sold for about $25G back in the day, and he suggested that I go with a fuel management system as he was familiar with the tbi drawback
bflann
Ok , I am in need of a mechanic near jacksonville fl to help me with my project. I don't have a garage were I can install my engine . I have the motor coming in about 2 wks , but I don't have a place to store it or want to wait for 2-3 months to have it installed in the car . Ideally I would like to do some work on the car myself , but I am a novice @ best as far as installing a motor into a car, let alone bolting on new manifold & turbo, modified intake & ems , and then getting it to run. So if anyone out there is near jacksonville fl and has a shop to work out of , I would really like to talk with u

bflann
Will do and thanks for the advice Import. Man I am getting anxious about getting this money pit resto to a point where I can drive the vehicle just a little. I have had the motor rebuilt w/ 8.5:1 pistons .04 ob & pauter rods, will have meth injection to go with mpi conversion and use haltech elite for em. I want to optimize the output of this motor while not trying to blow it. I have a t3/t4 hybrid turbo w/ ceramic heat coating on hotside and manifold, controlling it w/ gfb ebc, cx racing radiator & fans ( eliminated the shroud ), cosmo coilovers, new rotors, calipers, brakes, replaced steering coupler, ect... Now if I can just get it to run (w/ allota help of course), I would be ecstatic. Then I can get it painted & tuned.
