Boost gauge install and info

Why get an aftermarket mechanical boost gauge?

The factory gauge is just your computers best guess as to what boost levels are.  It can be off significantly from what your engines vac level actually is.

Where can I get an aftermarket gauge?

Aftermarket gauges are available from many suppliers and companies (too many to list).  Any 2 1/16" boost gauge will fit in the stock gauges location as well as aftermarket gauge pods such as the Lotek pod.  You can buy them through any parts supplier from $30 and up.

I have a boost gauge how do I hook it up?

Once you decide where you want your gauge (pod or cluster etc) you will need to run the vac source line from the engine compartment to the gauge.  You will also have to supply the gauge with power and a ground.

The most common place to hook your vacume line is on the base of the throttle body.  Stand on the drivers side of your car and look at the throttle body.  At the base of the throttle body you will see three vacports all in a row.  Each will have their respective hoses connected to them.  The third port which is closest to your firewall is what you want.  Run to the parts store and buy a "T" fitting.  Cut the line which runs to that third port and instal the "T".  Now connect your boost gauges line (should come with a lone) and run that through the firewall to your gauge.  It is recommended that you use teflon tape on the comression fittings most gauges supply.  Now that your source is connected you can move on to electrical.

Because electricity is not needed for the gauge to work you must decide.  Do you want your gauge lit all the time or only when the headlights are on.  If you want the light on all the time then tap into any ignition on source (there are several).  You can tap into the fusebox or a wire in the cluster if you choose.  No power source is better than any other.  Find one you like and work with it.

Unlike an Air Fuel gauge your boost gauge does not need a specific ground.  You can tap into an existing ground or create your own.  If you have a gauge pod you can attatch a closed hoop electrical fitting (looks like a washer, not sure of correct name)

to your ground wire and put a self tapping screw into the A-pillar sandwiching the ground connector in between.

That should about cover the boost gauge instal.

If you have any further questions please do not post them here.  Post on the troubleshooting boards as more poeple can help you there.
