Like the title says, the rear wiper has two modes, constant and intermittent. Some days all I get is constant no matter what way the switch is set.

So I guess you can say that this is an intermittent, intermittent wiper problem (bad attempt at humor).

As a side note, there are some days when the wiper doesn't want to park.

As always, all comments/ideas always welcome

Open the hatch.
At the top of the strut there isa round black plastic piece that has 3 chrome round contacts.
One of these on each side.
They slide in to another black plastic Piece with copper contacts as the hatch closes.
The upper pieces are held in place by a Phillips head screw.

Over time the hatch actually slips out of alignment.
Either move the hatch towards the front of the car by the mounting screws in the roof.
Or
Adjust the upper plastic piece by the Phillips head screw and slide it a 1/4 inch down a bit.

Remember 25 plus year old plastic sun baked. donít over tighten. It will crack.

Thanks importwarrior. That seems simple enough. I've seen the pieces your referring to didn't realize they were adjustable. Thought about adjusting the window(tailgate) but when I got to the screws they seemed so tight I was afraid of stripping them. This will be a much simpler fix. I was really afraid that I was looking at replacing the wiper motor.

You're probably one of the few who still has rear wipers working.   Most people have sagging hatches so the connection isn't there anymore.

The wiper motors can be "rebuilt"  just take it apart, clean the contacts and remove the old grease then relubricate and reinstall. When I adjusted my hatch shock contacts it allowed my rear wiper and third brake light to work again.

If your adjusting the hatch glass you need 2 possibly 3 people to do it.
1 or 2 people to move hatch in to position.
1 to loosen and tighten the bolts. Because the hatch is HEAVY !!!

Preludedude: The hatch is a little sagging but the connections are all there.

Turbo Cary: Thanks for the info. Wouldn't have thought they could be rebuilt. When I got the car the only thing that wasn't working on the hatch was the third brake light. All that needed was a new bulb though.

Importwarrior: the adjustment you mentioned did the trick. It was a really simple fix. I can see that they could move with what could be a constant slamming shut of the hatch.
