  1. Yes, I will more than likely be doing a stand alone in the future, once I set her up with the twin turbos. However, I am starting her off right wit the basics right now. Great news! Engine and tranny to be delivered on Friday!!!!! I am ecstatic for I nabbed an engine with only 6000km on it, and it's not hot either! I will try to start posting some pictures for you guys this weekend, time permitting,(plus I've got to figure out how to put up pics on this site too) for I just moved in to a new house this week and am still snowed under. I have yet to arrange towing of my car over to the new place, and will have to make room in the garage for the engine and tranny too. This is not going to happen over night so be patient with me, as I will post updates as they happen.
  2. I have found an engine and tranny, FINALLY! However the dolt that bought the 350z got an automatic transmission. I can't understand it either? On with my question...I went by yesterday and saw a compression test. The engine is absolutely gorgeous, and has just shy of 6000km on it. They have a 6 speed manual tranny which is also pretty close to new to bolt to it. The compressions were all around 175-200 psi, so I am showing no worries there. However, it has a computer for an automatic tranny. I have discussed this with 2 nissan mechanics and both of them made not so happy groans when I asked about switching to a manual tranny. They espressed "oh you are in for a headahe here", and a new computer would be close to a full $1k. I am already in for a battle mounting this in an alien car anwyays, but would like to here from you experts on your feelings about my future potential computer problem. I have been searching for this engine and tranny for quite a few months, and this is the best one I have seen, plus it is local, yet I do not want to rush in to a bigger headache than I need from the ge go. Anyone with input just pass it on, I do not care if it's positive or ultra negative, have at 'er.
  3. Actually the stock engine only puts out 270hp, but with the modifications to intake and exhaust alone I will be able to up this. Then I will be doing my own twin turbo addon to net the desired result. There is already available an APS, or a Greddy bolt on kits for these engines and I have followed the "project cars" in the magazines which have shown the results of the 500hp+ with only 6-7 psi on the turbos. They have projected upping the boost another bar or more, and have projected the power level available of 800+, however with major internal modifications required.
  4. I have been researching for quite some time now, and have finally made my decision on the engine I wish for. I bought this car down in Texas, and drove it directly home, to Toronto, and barely made it alive. The steering sucks(the coupler of course), and the engine head gasket blew the next morning when I fired it up to show my friends the very first day(bad Canadian air I guess). So I went to fix it, and found both the head warped, and even the bottom end requiring an overhaul. After finding out that these engines have a low hp top range, versus what I wanted, I started researching what I could put in to get what I truly wish. I wanted to achieve around 500-550 hp, and yet try to maintain it's great handling characteristics. So, 1JZ? Sure, but REALLY long, and REALLY heavy. Plus way too much modification(for my taste) in the engine bay. Then I thought of the skyline engines. Again quite a few to choose from. The SR20, great weight, but too much interior engine modification required to get the hp I wanted, even up to the God of all engines, RB26, which like the 1JZ would be too heavy and too long. So I finally have decided on the all new VQ35DE engine in a lot of the new Nissan's. Skepticism aside, the engine is all aluminum, is a nice sized V6, is quite powerful as is, but...... I will be modifying it to include a twin turbo set up at only 6psi, which will net me from 450-550hp, depending on my tuning. The tranny is on order, but I am having a dickens of a time finding the daggum engine?!! I have a friend going to Japan this month and will be trying to find me one, but as yet I have talked with just about every JDM in North America, and all they ever have to say is "sorry, engine not available or in stock right now". Arrgghh. These engines are fairly new, and especially to the tuner scene, and are very unpopular for upgrade lowering their demand. So I will keep y'all posted on the progress, for I have set my deadline to get it truly under way in the month of March and into April. Any comments you guys would like to add, simply let me know for I would love to hear them.
  5. ;D, Wow am I glad to see so much more interest in this now. I met with my buddies mechanic who also imports motors from Japan. I had an atlength discussion with him about what I want to accomplish and he raised a few more issues I had not considered. The other guy I talked to who said $3500 Canadian did not go through all sorts of options for me, so I'll get back to you guys with more detailed info if you are interested. This new guys I will work with in the next 2 weeks to finalize what I think I want/need. He is going to Japan in june and will find the stuff for me(off the shelf I hope) or order it. Then I will let you guys know about the real imported to my door cost. He did tell me he picked up an '89 GTR 2 months ago complete car that is for $9000 Canadian.
  6. ;D, I just loved seeing this post!!!! Believe it or not I actually am in the middle of ordering a RB26DETT engine for my 89 quest. I realize it will take some working out to fit, and function properly but I am willing to take the time just to enjoy the GRRRR... Plus dare I say I love my quest because it is unique and very rare, however coupling it with an even more rare(north america inclusive) engine that will handle 500hp before internal modifications are necessary, Wow times a few, eh. Okay, now reading your posts I am quite surprised to hear this figure of mega $K to get this engine and put it in? Huh? I am ordering mine from a local importer down the street. I am getting it for $3500 complete, and oh yeah, got to mention that is the funny monopoly style Canadian dollar!! That aught to make it a lot cheaper for y'all, don't you think? Oh yeah, it also includes everything back to the dashboard of the car. I get the entire front end of it, including drive train etc! That is probably why I am excited to see how it will fit, and what all things I may be swapping in. The crossmember is reverable and I may incorporate the steering of the GTR into my quest, who knows? Anyways, if you guys are interested in knowing how the swap is going simply ask. Once I have finalized my order it will take 2 months or so to get the car. Ciao for now.
