  1. Another member must of deleted a couple of theres then. Mine now!
  2. Improvement over the last attempt to upload pics. Won't allow me to upload anymore, any ideas on what to do?
  3. Just amazing what them little TDI engines can do. Can't wait to see this thing in real life!
  4. Thank you for the welcoming post's. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics in a gallery, haven't been too sucsessful on it yet.
  5. Hello all, my name is Ray. Currently living in Madison wi, anyone else around here? I know i"ve see 2 around here. The first time I had ever run across these cars was back in 2002. I walked into my high school auto shop class and there she was up on a lift. First I saw the wide tires with rwd, then noticed wheel flares, thought to myself at that point this thing is sweet! Then 2 seconds later saw it was 4cyl turbo. Turned away from the car and went staight to the shop instructor, "how much for the car?" He tells me it was sold yesterday. NOOOOO!!! The shop would constantly get donated cars, I ditched class the day before. I was a bit of a rebel back then. I went home that day to search the internet to find out so much more about this awesome car. Several months go by, I can't seem to find any in the local area. I go to a party and this guy shows up talking about this super fast porsche that he came in. Me being into cars and half thinking this guy is full of it I ask him what kind of porsche it is. Turns out it's no porsche at all, it's the car that was brought to the auto shop. Turns out a shop he worked at purshased it then he got it. I bought the car from him that night for 2k. Right away I could tell she was hurting. She was fairly stock at that time. Overheated and cracked the head a week later. I kinda cried. Sat around for about 8 months while i spent gobs of money over at TEP. I didnt know any better then. Eventually got it all back together by late 2003 with prty much all the mods you see below. Attended Jim Russell Race Mechanics school at Infineon "Sears Point" for all of 2004. There we had the chance to race the star mazda cars that we devoted all our time to maintain these school cars. One day we had a chance to drive are own cars on the track. Went out and my tep turbo oil line failed. Spun my bearings and put a slight scrape in 1 cylinder, but bugged up the piston too much to reuse. Bummed after only only getting 3k miles on her. So she sat, finished school, got hired onto a team and off i went to Nc. They trailored my car out there for me. She sat in the garage while i traveled the country not having the time to work on her. 2006 started getting back into, buying parts researching what I could do with her. 2007 moved into another place and had to put her in storage, she sat there for years. During that time i slowly got engine re-honed, ported turbo and manifold, polished up head, and workd on smoothing up tb. Ended up getting into it with tep for there faulty oil line, had to get a new piston from them. But there not the brightest there. Asked for the 8:1 piston, recived there new 8.2:1. My fault apparently even though i sent them the one from my car. So I had to buy a complete new set. In all I ended up spending over $100 in all the shipping. 2008 engine is still in pieces, no way to work on it while she was in storage. Mid 2008 moved to WI, bad mistake that was. Left her in storage in NC though. Was still too busy with racing schedule to go get her to WI. About a year ago I got out of "full time" racing and had a chance to get her, so I did. Everything to make her live again was just sitting on the shelf. I had bought roller rockers back when they were all over ebay. Thought they would be great, didn't have a roller cam tho. Put the head together and realized spring keepers crashed into valve seals. Brought head to machine shop so that another set of valve guides could be installed at a lower height and back sides cut down to work with the taper of the valves I bought. Head sat there for 3 months till i was fed up. Got head back, brought to another place, had it back 3 days later. After doing more research i realized there was no real beni to having the roller rockers with out the cam. So I removed them. Engine went in a couple weeks later, started up a couple after that. So as of a few months ago my starion has come back life. I just really wanted to share my story to you guys, and let you know a little about me. I plan to keep on going n going with this car to eventually have a great track day/drift car. Hope to give a little info given my racing background and plan to learn lots from this community. If you've made it this far in this post you must be a true fanatic, or just bored out of your mind. sry for my typing skills and my choice of wording. Lastly im prty much a wanna b mechanical engineer with common sense! lol
  6. Would appreciate some help on this one, got many pics of my build i'd like to share.
  7. When I go to create a new album I don't see a "apply modificatons." I thought i was getting somewhere at first, started uploading a pic and it just brought me to a blank screen.?
  8. I'll have to sit down for a while and read through my manual to get myself familar with these systems again before i ask anymore questions. Thank you again for the info.
  9. Pads will scratch a little after coming to a stop untill you get a little speed to knock back the pistons. Bleed brakes, do a test drive. "If you can," get up to 15+ mph and use the e brake to come to a stop, jack up the front and spin the wheel to see how much drag there is.
  10. Just realized what you ment by the block offs on the ahp. I've removed the oil speration system and pluged the hole.
  11. Great info!!! I've got tep 2.5 dp, 2.5 intermediate with cat, stock back. Stock mas and acord pipe. I do agree that it seem's to have a rich missfire sometimes. What i dont understand then is why the mas see's the most air at around 4000 rpm causing it to fuel cut. Is this about the point when both injectors start to fire. Does the mas just trip out at this point? I would think that once the engine goes lean at whatever rpm it would continue on through the rest of the rpm range. i've never kept on the gas when this happens, so not sure if it comes back. But i do know that if let off for a split second then shes ok for the rest of the rev range. Either way i need to install my maft and get a wideband setup. Holding back cause i've had similar problems when everything was stock years ago. Just want the semi stock setup to work right, but I guess im past that point. Also since you bring up the ahp, what do you think about manual boost controlers that bleeds metered air? Thank you for the info thus far.
  12. Thank you for the responce. This only happens sometimes though. Could a cts cause this problem? I notice when she is warm at around 900rpm she doesn't seem to go into closed loop. Just sits at a steady rich cycle. if i give her just a coulpe hundred more rpms i see the afr bounce around like it should, right? I've read that when the cts goes bad that it can either throw too much fuel or not enough. I've got a maf-t to install one day. I just don't think this is a normal lean out condition, it almost seems like a fuel cut is going on. O, ive also reset the tps, isc several times.
  13. Hello guys! Got my 88 starion going recently and im having a problem with it leaning out. I have an upgraded fuel pump all filters are clean, in tank and in line. Fuel pressure is good at idle with stock fpr. injectors were cleaned years ago and just sat around. Running about 14 pounds of boost right now. all i have right now is a narrow band gauge for a lil piece of mind. I have the problem around 4000+ rpm at wot. i can watch the gauge go from several bars rich to an instant lean, and have a total loss of power. when i see, feel this i get off the gas. but if i get right back on it she goes right back to rich without a problem for the rest of the rev range. Don't have the cash to throw at it just yet, but id like to hear what u guys think. Quiz me for more hepfull info on this please.
  14. Is the two wire ring terminal coming off the harnes by the coil properly fastened to the chassis for a ground? I made the mistake of conecting it to the ground of the coil and had the same problem. Injectors would not fire.
