this is the new ride that we got in trade from harry's son jeremy for the flatty. it ran and drove great on the 1000 mile trip back home and did great on gas with the a/c blasting. i got it cleaned up a little from the trip so i snapped a few pics of it sitting out in front of the house.

i have the glove box out of it right now because the material on it was messed up, it looks like the sun baked it to death and it was bubbled up. i fixed it but i havent re-installed it yet because its still drying.

A LOT......lol. 196k but you would never in a million years think that by the way it runs and drives, plus Acura is just a glorified honda so its good for another 100,000. :)

and as you can see from the photos the car is clean as could be inside and out with no rust what so ever, the only flaw the interior had was the glovebox and i have never seen a material like that before. its like they rubber coated foam and then the sun baked it turning it into a gooey mess, i used a putty knife and scrapped it all off and it was like the black stuff they use around the edges of the plastic piece under the door panels. it was a black sticky mess and anywhere you would touch it there would be a indent, and peeling it off was a nightmare. you could literally mold the stuff like playdough. after i got it peeled most of the way off i coated it with a thin layer of bodyfiller because i took some chunks out of the foam as i was scraping it, then i just coated it in some truck bed coating so its nice and durable.

i may later down the road order a new cover for it but you cant just order the cover you have to get the whole glove box assembly and its around $429 for that bad boy. i did search for some used ones but all the ones i found had damage to them much like the one that was already on there so it seems its a common problem for them.

Just gave her a fresh oil change using Mobil1 full synthetic as per the manual and a Mobile1 filter......$60 just for the oil and filter.

i will be changing the rear diff fluid for the SH-AWD system and that will be about $28 so thats not too bad.

after that i need to address the engine code its throwing for the knock sensor but thats gonna have to wait a couple weeks. you actually have to remove the whole intake manifold and fuel rails just to access the dang thing because its down in the V section of the motor so that will be a little involved. the parts for all the gaskets and stuff will run about another $70 but then she should be all taken care of.

yeah i signed up on a Acura forum and the glove box is a very common problem.

the knock sensor is also a common problem along with the navigation screen going black. the only solution for the navi is sending the ecu unit in the trunk to alpine to get it repaired, i guess its about $400. i thought about just pulling out the navi screen and installing a aftermarket head unit with navigation but i guess trying to tap into the factory wiring for the speakers and amps is next to impossible since its linked in with the climate controls.

obviously getting the knock sensor fix will come first before attempting to fix the navigation. even though you cant get in and adjust any of the radio settings or change the time on the clock the stereo still sounds pretty bad to the bone since its a 10 speaker surround sound setup with a factory Bose 8" subwoofer in the rear deck. :)

i found out where to send the navigation unit for repair, its a alpine repair facility in Torrance CA and like i mentioned the repair is around $400 and thats a flat rate fee to fix them.

so of course i am thinking $400 for a repair is pretty steep so lets price out what a new unit might cost in comparison.......and i almost passed out when i found out how much a new unit cost.

i dug through some of the service records that were in the glove box.....lol. these account for the car from the day it was new until 163K and all the work except a couple oil changes were all done at a Acura dealership.
Posted Image

this was the main one i was looking for, over on the acura forums they mentioned the timing belt is supposed to be replaced at 105k and it was done at 102k. given the car now has 196k on it i have about 11,000 miles before its due for another change, you can get a kit that has all the parts listed here for about $180 so the price isnt too bad if i do it myself.

yep those four papers to the left of the pile are tires the car has had over the years, the price tag on those bad boys have me shakin in my boots....for real. i think they could stand to be rotated so i will probably do that this weekend and check the brake pad life while i am at it.

the service records start at about 3500 miles and go all the way up to 163,000 miles and all the work as you can see has been done by Acura. this car has been well taken care of. :)

right now i am trying to get the emission code light to go off with some tips i have heard from a couple different people. they said empty the tank and fill it back up with super 93 and run a couple tanks of that and then clear the code again and it may make it stay off. that sure beats pulling the intake apart to get to that knock sensor so its worth a try. we used our fuel points and filled it up from empty with the gas light on to above full for about $35 with 93 octane.

with the fresh oil change and the 93 octane i was seeing a fuel average of 26.8 mpg on a recent 100 mile trip. on the way back from your house we were seeing 24-25 mpg so its getting a little better gas mileage...lol.

yep, there is nothing wrong with the current bulbs but it bugs the crap out of me that the fog lights dont match the HIDs in color...lol.

i also need to fix the passenger side fog light lens where its cracked. i found a write up on replacing the glass with lexan on the Acura forum so i will be redoing both of them so they match.
