Not sure if this is the correct section, so please move thread if needed.

Trying to determine value of my 1986 ESI-R. I got it from the original owner. Here are the brief details:

60k miles
All original, never modified
5spd manual
Silver exterior with grey cloth interior
Manual seatbelts with Turbo embroidered

Metal: 9/10 (99.9% rust free. It was never driven in the winter and rarely in the rain. Only rust is spotty on the metal mud flap area where rocks have nicked the paint, and a few of the same on the front of the hood. The front splitter is cracked on both sides, but not terribly)

Paint: 7.8/10 (from 10’ it looks quite good, but when you get closer you will see a dozen or so nicks in the side, almost like the previous owner kept bumping it in the garage as they are all the same height)

Interior: 8/10 (some of the buttons show wear, but no rips in the seats or cracks on the dash)

I don’t plan to sell the car as I just acquired it, but I am going to add an “agreed value” insurance policy to it and want to make sure I set the value correctly.

Thanks

I'd insure it for $15K.

Thanks. I chose $20k as it was only another hundred dollars for the year.

Hey ApexHunter ... beautiful car you got there.  Grace Silver is my favorite color on these cars.

One question ... are you 100% sure you have an 86.  I thought all 86's had the "turbo" door handles.  I could be wrong, but I thought 86 was the year for that.
1988 Starion ESi-R ... crushed by a tree 10/31/11 - back from the dead 8/2016
1988 Conquest TSi ... current driver - sold to Bigjoe 6/2016
1987 Conquest Flatty ... F/S thread - sold 8/2014
1987 Conquest TSi ... parts car - sold to Coldscrip 12/2011
1999 Eclipse 4G63 ... heavily modified.

Carfax, title, and VIN check all show 1986. I don’t know a whole lot about these cars (yet). What year might you think it would be?

It also has grey cloth interior, which I’ve yet to see on an ESI-R. Could it be a lesser model, or not original? Or just more rare?

It’s a lever on the side/bottom of the column.

How can I tell?

I feel like a fish out of water with this car. I might just sell it this spring and get back into my comfort zone of older BMWs.

That car is clearly silver. You bought it from someone in Minnesota. Obviously in an attempt to make money on it. If you can't do your own research to figure out what the car is worth please don't come here and ask stupid questions to then say your going to sell the car you know nothing about.

I apologize if i seem a little harsh but this happens constantly.

There are far easier ways for me to make money than trying to flip 30 year old JDM cars.

If I do end up selling it, I’ll list it for exactly what I paid ($5,100).
