6G72 conquest in the works

The main girdle on the 6g72 4 bolt is pretty heafty. Man, I have so much 2.6 stuff but i just have a hard time parting with it because they can be made nasty. I have been wanting to put a 6g72 into a quest for 10 years. The hardest part of the wiring is going to be integrating a few plugs into the starions dash portion. I have the vr4s ecu harness and it is going to work. It even matches the starions control relay. The pinouts may be different but I could swap wires to match.

just the flanges so you can custom make a manifold. they are for the dohc motors.

I think you would use 1.75" piping. I made a set of headers for a local guys neon with a 6g72 swap. (dumbest swap ever)

And If I were you, I would move the motor farther forward than in the picture. Consider if you have to undo the trans/motor bolts or cas bolts or just reach behind it at all.

Nice! I plan to soon trying to do a 6g74 Swap 4v per cyl SOHC Swap into my starion. Did you have to change the intake to fit? Does the oil pan fit well? What you plan to do for trans and trans adapter?

The intake is off a 2002 diamante so it faces forward, It interferes with the booster by an 1/8th in but it will work when its trimmed. Only issue I have is the brake booster is touching the corner of the valve cover. The motor in the pic looks like it is really far back but the bellhousing is protruding in to the engine bay much farther than the conquests was. I can easily undo the top bolts from over the valve covers and I could mount the starter too.. I would consider moving it a little farther forward but the intake is Really close to the hoodline now and the steering is in a good location in relation to where the trans bolts up. Ill look at it today. The block was easy to mod to fit the montero mounts, I had to remove a 1/4 inch off a casting nub and they bolted right on.. They have a really strange metric pitch thread though. I had to get them at napa. They are 1.75 pitch, so are the bellhousing bolts. I have the tranny in there too, its a tundra 2wd with a mitsubishi montero bell. Bolted right up and fits great.. Edited by steppesquest

The pan looks like it will fit no problem but i cant say for sure because they sent me the wrong one.. I need a 4 bolt main pan and i received the older 2 bolt style with a narrow opening. And... after trial and error, no other pan off a montero or anything else will work. The 4 bolt girdle is so large.

Its an auto from a 2003 tundra with a 98 montero bellhousing. Not sure which torque converter ill use, but they look pretty much the same between the tundras and monteros. They may have different bolt patterns to mate to the flex plate.

you should document that for future 6g7x swappers.

your engine, model and year, other parts from different models with years and mods

trans, model and year, mods to be done

torque converter and flexplate, mods to be done

engine and trans mounts with mods

wiring and ecu/trans controller.

I like your swap. I always contemplated doing a sohc swap because they are disposable, but the dohc will make more power easily. Who doesn't like MOAR POWER?!?!!

Why not just make a big bolt on plenum like the dude in tx with the ba'dass stealth or whatever it was. Unless hood clearence is that killer.

there is a difference in starter rotation that has been asked about , when you do a reverse starter application, its good to know you rotate the enging in the proper direction

I must have torn apart 50 starters looking for length and direction

http://www.billsautofab.com/images/6G72adapterC4bellhousing19.JPG http://www.billsautofab.com/images/6G72adapterC4bellhousing20.JPG

I hated the first starter location, there were two problems with it, first in didnt set the starter between bellhousing bolt boses and relied on only one main bolt station to limlt and deflection in the starter, the other problem was special shifter linkage would have been required

http://www.billsautofab.com/images/6G72adapterC4bellhousing22.JPG http://www.billsautofab.com/images/6G72adapterC4bellhousing24.JPG

because of the depth of the starter gear, I had a choice. build a custom gear or build the starter body right into the bellhousing, well I hate custom parts, all these parts are available over the counter so I spent the time to place the front of the starter pocket into the bellhousing

Oil pan fits perfectly without interfering with anything. I have my tranny bolted up and its good to go too. Thanks to the person who posted the eclipse intake, I appreciate that.. I would use it if mine didnt fit so good. Definitely an option thought. I have an rps flywheel and light weight front pulley that is not underdrive. I want to post pics but this is being a pain and is not letting me do it..
