BaltTSI
I replaced my temp gauge with a Cyberdyne digital gauge and had to disconect the the factory sensor ( the one on the right and below the thermostat ) and replaced the sensor itself . so now the auto trans won't go into overdrive , anyone know how to trick it so that it thinks theres still a hot sensor there ? 89 TSi Having a digital gauge shows some very intresting temperature patterns , see my other post on them ( Digital temp. patterns )
Frank
Just take a resistance reading from a fully warmed car and use a resistor to tie into the factory input wire. That's about the easiest way. Frank
Guest Paul87Quest
One option might be to get a earlier year thermostat housing....where the sender goes into that.....plumb the sensor in there with a tap..... or From my diagram in my 88 manual, it appears that the yellow/green wire is just a temperature switch....it must just form a ground when it heats up. If the wire is disconnected now, have you tried grounding it out?...that may just do the trick.
mikec
The orig temp sensor in the thermostat housing should have had 2 prongs: one drove your dash guage, the other is a hot/cold (on/off) switch that enabled the O/D function. It also sends a signal to the a/c system to tell it when there is warmth in the coolant... i.e. when it's time to switch from the defrost vents to the floor heater vents when you use the AUTO mode. You've probably lost that function as well... In the connector for the orig temp sensor, look for a yellow+green wire. Ground it and your o/d (and a/c) will think the car is warmed up and the o/d will work again. mike c.
