87 Quest -

Went for safety inspection and they found a slight up/down play on the right front wheel.
They didn't fail me but said it could be the wheel bearing since there is no upper ball joint.
Went home and tried it and confirmed, I can even feel and hear a clunk - left side is solid.
Any tip for confirming that it is the bearing?

Thanks

Easiest way is to pull the wheel and tire off, remove the brake caliper, and yank on the rotor. If it moves and clicks pull it off and visually inspect the bearings. They are not that exspensive to replace.
I got blisters on my fingers!!!

Just replace them, it's not hard and cheap maintenance.

I'd go ahead & do both sides. It's fun scooping out a gob of grease & packing bearings!

If the grease under the dust cap doesn't have water in it then its just loose and a shop should have taken 2 minutes and fixed it for you because its adjusted wrong.  Look it up.

Thanks for this info Indiana - I'm guessing you mean tightening the hub nut if loose and nothing is damaged.

https://www.howacarw...wheel-bearings

This was found during a safety inspection for a sticker so I didn't expect them to fix it. Just happy they didn't fail it, all set for another year.
I will take a look - appears simple enough for me to replace or adjust.
