Met John Law today in the new Conquest.

Took the wife out for the first ride in the Conquest. Just got it last week. Went by Camden Community College in Blackwood NJ. They installed 2 really tight traffic circles a couple of years ago. We zoomed thru them in 2nd and 3rd. The new tires squeelin. Wife was having a Midol moment right about then. Came out of the second turn and went a block, and there were cops all over the place. 4 cars pulled over. Looked like a DUI stop. I coasted to a light and a Blackwood crusier pulled up next to me, and asked me to roll the window down. Her eyeballs are ready to pop out of her head. He says, I haven't seen one of those in a while. I told him we just got it. It only has 51,000 miles on it. The wife tells him this is the car we met in. He said same exact one, I said NO, I'd have never bought it then. Light changes and I scooted outta there. He only wanted to see the black Conquest.

So it didn't take me long to rack up a little story.

you'll find that people are going to come out of the woodwork to talk to you about it. Some of them know what it is, some of them dont, and some of them will lie to you to make you think they know what it is.

I once had a long conversation with a guy at a gas station telling me how he owned one only to have him end it with "wish id have never sold my supra"

lol!

yea whenever someone comes up and talks to me about my quest, they always say "my friend had one of those 'cars' " or "ive always liked those 'cars' "

they will never say what kinda car it is, more then likely because they dont know what it is.... and i have told my friends what kinda car it is a few times and they still forget what its called.

the one and only guy I had come up to me actually knew what it was. I was working on it in the driveway, and he stops in the middle of the road while driving by, and hollers "well that's a rare one!". I asked if he knew what it was, and he said "yeah, that's a Mitsubishi Starrrrion!". I asked if he wanted to take a look, and so he did. turns out his girlfriend used to own one.

Whenever anyone asks what I drive, I always have to repeat myself.

I was showing mine to a guy last night that stopped to check it out and another guy walks up while I had the hood open. After the first guy leaves the second guy asks why I swapped a Mitsu motor into my Supra...and this guy works at Autozone...lol

I thought I was dead meat for a couple of seconds there. I glad it turned out that way. You know the wife would have held that against me for the rest of eternity. She still brings up the bachelor party incident, and that was 16 years ago.

I was pulling mine on a trailer a few months ago down to where I just moved to. My friend and I stopped to get something to drink and as I walked out there was a crowd around my car. The front clip was off of it for loading purposes, the engine bay while not entirely put back together was pristine as was the rest of the car. It looked pretty ominous with it's flat black primer paint job, hunched down on it's D2's from the straps. I gave a quick spiel about it and fielded a few questions like "Is it a track only car"? "What's the HP"?

Made me feel pretty good knowing that even though the car hasn't reached "Awesomeness Personified" yet, people came out of the woodwork to tell me what a cool car it was. Can't wait to get back from A-Stan to finish it up and slide it in to it's permanent garage where I can fire it up and take it for a ride when the mood strikes me.

Anyways, My buddy has a 1976 BMW 2002, Very cool car if you know what it is, his brother has a minty fresh 1981 BMW 320i, I get more atention than both of them ;) I barely have drivin the quest too but everyone stares. I damn near got arrested once when a cop thought I had the wrong title for my "Supra" lol. Hell, even my own mother has "seen my car around town".. turns out they were 300zx's and Daytona's  But I do love the poeple that come up to me with stories about these from back in the day, it seems these wonderful machines leave a soft spot in any and every body with experience.

I got loads of stories from my original one circa 1988 to 1992, In 92 is when I started to become a more responsible adult.

i know i enjoy the responce i get when i have the quest out and around where i stay there is only maybe a handful of them in town , and when i hit the local cruiz spots or shows always big crowds around her asking questions , and true ever so often a guy may know what it is and little about them , and its one car that always gets respect with the hot rod guys and the tuner crowd , its funny when u can park next to a high end car ,and people walk by just to ask u about the quest , and like DARTMOTIVE my first love is mopars and i have a 72 and a 68 dart myself , i like stuff u dont see everyday and mopars fell in that catagory theres not many around here , and not trying to thred jack but threw in a couple pics of a couple other builds http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/JASONCROFFORD/dart72.jpghttp://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/JASONCROFFORD/conquestblown.jpg

I laughed so hard at the cop mistaking it for a Supra!

When I was getting gas for my 84 literally minutes after I bought it this middle aged guy in a 1966 Chevelle come screeching to a stop to turn into gas station. He knew exactly what my car was. Turned out he owned a couple back in the day along with some Nissan Z cars, cool guy, talked with him for ~ 30 minutes.

Two days later I was driving the car back to my parents house to do some work on it (which turned into a rebuild into what it is now) and I got pulled over with no plate. The cop thought it was a Honda Accord.......
