Metal air dam?

Had to take my air dam off to get some work done and it once again cracked. Wondering if there are sturdier alternatives then the flexible plastic that seems to come apart in this hot summer heat. Metal comes to mind. Has anyone done this before? I understand it would have to be a complete custom job. Just mad at my current one and may have to replace in the near future, can keep repairing it forever.

Imagine the cost of creating a very complex shape like our air dam out of metal. Now imagine you hit that very expensive all metal air dam on something like you are doing with your flexible one. What is going to be the outcome? My guess is it will be you even more upset than you are about cracking your current type of air dam.

My suggestion, stop whacking it on stuff lol.

It was pretty wrecked when I got the car. Cracked to all he'll and held in with a leather car bra and zip ties. Never knew till I took the bra off. Been trying different epoxies but the hot weather up here has been causing them to unbond, gonna try bondo bumper repair and fiberglass cloth backing this time around

If you do a search on the forums here (best to use google) you can find info about a 3M product meant specifically for the type of material our airdams are made of. It definitely makes a huge difference.

Yeah from that info I found is how I came to the conclusion to get the bondo stuff. Figure the fiber cloth can't hurt, only add some structure, thanks speedyquest

I started repairing it using the bondo bumper epoxy and mesh fabric. So far it's working great and looks damned good after some sanding. It's a good measure until I can do an order with Nicofab, for now it's on to primer and repainting.
