conquest89
No prob, I am going to order some up, they are only like $30 a peice also. Don't have a prob, but imagine where you would put your jack behind the front wheels to jack the car up on the frame. Almost between the firewall and the front seats. Mine are rusted to all hell, and from what I hear many other peoples are. You would have to remove the old ones, and weld in the new ones.
kev
Wow, thanks that helps me out too. How long did it take to order them in? kev
machquest
question...when welding in the new rails, is it advisable to pretty much gut the interior? i'm imagining heat transfer to at least the carpeting, and possibly other vitals as well, like the computer stuff in the passenger side kick panel, not to mention the driver's side, where i think there's some potential heat issues with brake & gas lines... also, do the old ones come out by sawzall, plasma cutter, torch? what's best? 'preciate it.
kev
Yes the carpets have to come out. Other things aren't that much of a problem but yes the fuel lines on the drivers side are an issue. You can unbolt most of the fasteners on the lines and be able to pull them about 5-6 inches away from the rail. Then cover them up with some canvas and wet rags. The concentrated arc of a mig welder will keep any flames away from those lines. The easiest thing to do is to get a sport weld cutter and drill out every spot weld. Use an angle grinder to cut the part that attaches to the frame of the front clip. Then clean up the floorboard, position the new piece, and mig it in. kev

chug302
I checked with my local (Indianapolis) dealer and they could only get me the right frame rail. I'am looking for a dealer that I can get the left frame rail. If you guys know of one, could you post their phone number, maybe I can have it drop shipped to me. Thanks, Scott

chiplee
I just ordered one from Westbroad for the right. Luckily that's all tha rusted on my automatic. Â They said I got one of the last 3 in the world and that the left was no longer available anywhere. Â That makes me wonder if their computer just isn't updated or what, so we'll see if I actually get it. Â the number is 800 229 1001 though, if you want to give them a call. Â $

TheMoe
Hah! Knew I saw this somewhere before... and here I was spending the last couple of hours looking it up under the virtual mechanics page. Thanks for the info! I just ordered my passenger side frame rail... they even had it in stock... should be receiving it in two days, the guy says. Thanks! Now, the mechanic won't have to fabricate the piece... ;D TheMoe
