ultraflexxj
has anyone tried to use these transmissions they were in the late 80's early 90's corvettes
1989STAR-ESIR
That would be a waste of time. Plus the transmission is in the back of a Corvette. The best transmission to use is the infamous T56 6 Speed from Fbodys 93-2002. With the Starquest 3.54 final gear ration, it would be a match made in heaven. STARION_NORTH
The transmission used in those cars was actually produced by ZF Industries, not Getrag. 6th gear is too high for us at .50, no way our little motors could pull that much gear. Corvettes of this vintage used a standard engine/transmission/rear-end setup, it wasn't until 1997 and the introduction of the C5 vette that the trans was moved to the rear of the car (also marks the introduction of the T56 to the vette).
polarisman14
What about the 6spd from the supra? Those are bulletproof transmissions although quite expensive.

Actaully Corvette did not start putting the transmission in the rear till the C5 which was 1998. Even then I believe they were using the t56 from the C4. Chad
stop the madness: T56http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_T-56_transmission ZFhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ZF_transmissions getraghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getrag Indeed, the .50 6th is useless on a quest with stock 3.55 rear diff. It's only usable with a 4.22 diff ratio. Even the .75 5th gear is a stretch.
R-R-Quest
What vehicle would have 4.22's that fit in our diff's?
Chad
Monteros and D-50's I believe (might be in teh FAQ or found in a search). You can still buy the parts new from the dealer, or yard them out of parts cars. there is no direct-swap differential, it has to be frankesteined together. Because it wasn't a stock ratio for the diff, getting the shims seup correclty can be trickey, but its been done on many members cars. even at 80, the motor was only turning like 2200 RPM, to low to make the boost needed to push the car along at that speed without lugging it badly. Technology
good for low rpm, high load static tuning though.
