I thought about cup holders. And I am more than likely going to use the mirror switch. I would like to reincorporate the lighted left/right "panel" too.
I plan on getting away from the auto belts. I did pick up a set though. I was thinking about going with a harness to match the seats I want. This is also a reason I tried to mimic the stock dash to some extent in case I need to go back to the auto-belts

I picked up my jump/stomp shear from grizzly. Good price and is not any worse quality than a pexto. Still cutting on the first blade and I use it 5 days a week for almost 3 years.

Its been crazy around the shop. Just got a job to build a food truck. Was able to get some work done on the console though.

Laid out and cut the hole for the shifter boot

After about an hour of filing the opening I got pretty much what I wanted

You can see I also decided to go with one solid console instead of two pieces.

next was the area of the old seat belt releases. I am gonna keep the mirror switch but I needed to make a removable cover because I plan on using the factory mounting locations. I
I went with some nice cap head screws. Because the console is aluminum and the hardware is steel I used 2 part epoxy to attach the nuts,

Not as easy to neatly apply as I anticipated

And this is were we are now. Had to change the stock hinge on the armrest. Not sure if I am going with a radio or gauges. But I need a place for things like my phone and some change.
That will either go in the mirror switch panel or in the bottom of the radio face like stock,

My new carpet also showed up this weekend. So I will pull the seats and install it. Then I can get a look at exactly how the console fits. Not really anticipating any problems. But we all know how that goes.

Might be tough getting it in because of the shifter as one piece.

I already test fit it as one piece without the shifter boot. I do not think it will be overly difficult.....i hope.

Gotta chime in just to say what a great looking console. Nice skills making it. Good job.

I would love to sell these. But unless I find a way to make them faster, they will be pretty expensive due to the hours I have in it. I think after the first it would go much quicker.
I did some more work on it this week:

Cut in the switch for the power mirrors

Overhead view

Once again I used 2 part epoxy to hold 4 bolts in place then cut some pieces of aluminum to hold the boot in place.

Here it is fitted in the car. I cut the angles at the bottom of the radio area to adjust the angle slightly. I will need to extend the back bottom because it is not sitting flush to the carpet. This shot shows the new carpet too
It was not an exact fit but it will be fine.

You could sell all the pieces to weld it yourself. Might be easier on shipping too. I'd be interested in buying one. I like how this is turning out. Great work.

your car has come a long way since the first pics you posted in the newbie section when the interior was in pieces, looking good.

what are your plans to finish it off? are you gonna paint it or have it powder coated.......i would almost just clear it and leave the raw metal look to it.

I'm gonna Hydro dip it carbon fiber. So I will smooth it some and paint a base coat soon. I will look at making a u-weld kit. But when I started making this I did not think there would be that kind of interest in it, So I did not make notes on all my measurements. I do have some ideas in the works that I think people might express interest in planned for the near future.
I had some great help from members here getting parts together. Next big purchase will be the roll bar. I know I really do not need one but I am looking to do away with the auto-belts, so I need to go harnesses.
This baby is going to have many mods and fab work done since it was practically in pieces when I got it.

Yea but were is the fab fun in that? If you are into the hunt, brown manual seat belts would be a massive score. My old flatside was a goldish/brown but I think it had a black interior. it was back in the early 90's and that time of my life is all kinda fuzzy.
